BakaBT showing seeds even though client is off
« on: June 24, 2010, 05:32:40 PM »
I noticed that sometimes bakabt will show that I have a couple of files seeding even though I don't have my torrent client on (vuze).
Any ideas?

Give the tracker time to update the site...

I knew nothing of the outside world. I was just a frog in a well.

Can also be caused by client session closing incorrectly (like when your pc shuts down abruptly) so it doesn't report correctly to the tracker. Solution is either to wait until the tracker figures it out, or restart/reshut the client. Enabling graceful shutdown in uTorrent advanced settings (set bt.graceful_shutdown to true) helps too, especially if you have a lot of torrents. Don't know how the last is applied to vuze however...

it doesn't really matter anyway. the worst that can happen is that you gain some bonuspoints - which is actually good, not bad for you. ;)
so just don't worry about it.

Thanks for looking at the bright side of things for me, but it isn't a good idea to have your PC doing things on the internet you don't want it to or know about.

I think it may be the Vuze client not shutting down correctly because plenty of time has gone by since shutting it down so I think the tracker must have had time to update.

Well, that's fairly easy to check - just look at the running processes.  I am assuming, of course, that Vuze isn't running a rootkit to hide its activity. :)

I'm pretty sure it was always visible to me back when I used Vuze, though that was a while ago. An update might have changed that, but I doubt it.
