Warned too long...
« on: July 13, 2010, 11:52:46 AM »
Hi, I was warned for 1 week and couldn't download, the last day was yesterday, but now the warning time was reset to a week again, and i didn't get a chance to seed/share for my ratio to go up... What do I do. Yes I tried searching the FAQ and Wiki, but with no luck... Please reply ASAP.

You obviously suck ass at reading the wiki.
It resets weekly until your ratio is at an acceptable level. Which it isn't. Go read the FAQ properly. And the wiki fully. I know it's there as I've linked it before.
You're not a vile human, you're a vile liar.

i don't think reading the wiki is actually required in this case, just reading the warned message should be enough:

Quote
You are warned
Your next evaluation will be in X days. You must seed to get rid of the warning. Note: If your situation has not improved at the time of your next evaluation the warning will be extended for another week, and so on.

Nevermind I missed something... Thanks for the reply.

EDIT:

I tried to seed a already downloaded torrent, but it just won't start, the ETA is stuck at infinity. Any help ?

Are you sure that torrent has leechers to begin with?

I'm not sure about the particulars of your client, but I've always seen the ETA refer to how long it will take to download a torrent, meaning that it shouldn't be a number if you're seeding it.

It is possible to get it in uTorrent during seeding if you use "Seed up to a certain ratio" option.

The most likely cause is that nobody has made a connection to you, and the client simply shows this status by default regardless of it being misleading. How does it compare to the *other* two torrents that I presume you are simultaneously re-seeding, when you are here?

Assuming that there are leeches, and you don't see "goal" or "target" in the torrent status, a possible cause is that the datafiles did not pass an integrity check by your client, and the tracker is refusing to allow you to connect to peers for obvious reasons, so the archive cannot be repaired/replaced. You have the files in the original place they were downloaded to, have not renamed them and the client does say 100%, right?

I have to say that I do have some suspicion that you simply hope someone will lift the warning so you can finish your downloads and run, because I think you're burst torrenting on your parents PC or whatever, and greed is probably getting the better of you because of all the treasure here. Its seems like forever to share anything back, so little time, so much anime, right?

Even if I'm wrong, its worth knowing that if you can't have an internet machine on for a good deal of the day, then you *have* to limit your download speed with trackers like bakabt. Set your torrent client to download individual episodes from anime series' rather than the whole thing at once, set a limit that will allow you to get an episode or two during your torrent session, so that you can seed at the same time and will have something to watch between bursts. First you have to fix your rates, though... just keep your non-bakabt torrenting to a reasonable amount and you should be able to fix your ratio before before the warning gets re-issued.

Regardless of whether or not you have an "Internet machine" on for a decent amount of time, you will likely have to limit your downloading, especially if you have an asymmetric connection. Unless your upload speed limit is pretty high, and you can reach that limit regularly, pacing becomes very important.

It's not absolutely necessary to download a torrent in segments, though, if you have enough of a ratio buffer to take the hit. That takes careful planning, of course, or just mad mass nonstop seeding.

Dunno, really Kira - I don't use download limits here, I'm happy to seed most of the time and download in only short bursts. Because of the way my ISP currently deals with torrent-choking, (5 hour per-tracker throttling in 24 hour period for persistent users) this strategy works out better for me in the long run, because my system seeds best through the night, when I'm (sometimes) in bed. I grab downloads during the morning/afternoon before the choke kicks in and I can copy them off to another system share for whatever purposes and let my client worry about the rest.

I got down to about a 0.15 ratio when I first came here, but I did this fully accepting that I would have to seed for a long time if I got warned. By that point I had enough anime to be going on with for a while, and enough different encodings to make testing my scripts plausible. Now I'm at about 0.5 and I'm happy just to be seeding most of the time, and go on doing so as long as possible. This would not have worked out nicely if I could only torrent for a couple of hours at a time; I wouldn't dream of sucking down 1MB/s in such a scenario!

Of course, it's not necessary to download in segments, it's just a suggestion to the guy as a way he might be able to get something down to watch during a session, so that he doesn't decide seeding isn't worth it and just does a big hit and run as soon as his rates are "fixed". It's quite obvious he can't manage *either* careful planning or mad mass non-stop seeding xD
