question about burning to disk
« on: July 15, 2010, 02:29:49 PM »
Okay on alot of the dual audio content on this website when i download it works awesome i know how to listen to both thats not the issue :D

the issue is when i try to make a disk to watch it on tv with my kids instead of all trying to cram in the corner with my computer >.>.
When i burn the disk, It only plays Japanese. I am unsure as to how to burn it to where english will play on the burnt disk.
As it stands i First convert the disk to .avi so the program i use can burn .. if i dont' convert it it won't burn windows dvd creator i convert useing prism video converter.

is there a way to burn *free* to where it will have english?

According to the Prism website: Prism will only use the first or default sound stream of the source file. There are no options to change this within Prism at this stage.

Switch converter software.

Or use MKVTollnix to change default settings for audio tracks.

That sounds a whole lot easier.  :)

In case your computer is rather close to your TV you could purchase a VGA and a sound cable. Thus, you wouldn't have to do all the extra work. Plus, you wouldn't need to burn CD/DVDs endlessly.

Personally, I have a separate computer with 5TB worth of HD hooked directly to my big screen with a HDMI cable.

You can get pretty long ones too. I have a 5m one so I can use my mbp from across the room.

Hm I was wondering, if my TV is older and won't let me hook my laptop to it how do I burn animes to dvd?

I've never burned a show to a dvd before. I know my dvd player is a JVI XV-S45 CD/DVD player, and I also have a PS2 for a dvd player.

Will the animes with subtitles play with the subtitles on these or will it just play the RAW version? Also do they have to be .avi like danworth was converting them to or does it just depend on your dvd player?

Depends on how you go about doing it. If you convert it to hardsubs, then the subtitles will definitely display. However, DVD players are capable of using softsubs (and multiple sub tracks for that matter).

Uh... first off, you need a DVD burner. Computer burners offer the best flexibility, control, and price for that. You can't burn DVDs using your player; a DVD player is different from a VCR in that respect. From there, you set your settings. If you want subs, find a program that will put subs in. If you want to use a certain format, find a program that supports that format. A DVD player will only play DVD-video discs, among other types that it supports, like VCD, music CD, etc. So if you burn the file onto the disc, all you're doing is putting the file onto the disc, and while this results in less space usage, it is probably not compatible with your player, unless you have a DivX player or something similar. To create a DVD-video disc you need to convert the video files, and from past experience this can take ages and the resulting quality is pretty bad compared to the original.

If your laptop is fairly new (within the past, I dunno, 5-odd years, maybe) it should have a standard built-in burner, otherwise it's a POS, no offense. Read the label on your optical drive.
