Looking for an anime like NANA
« on: July 23, 2010, 01:58:19 AM »
I finished watching NANA a while ago and i am going to read the manga also. That is probably my favorite anime now. But I would love to watch more anime like it. Like about people out of high school with similar problems and maybe some good music in it too.

Don't recommend School Days like some people seem to do in every thread.  ::) It's so annoying.

Don't get too excited about the manga, that isn't finished yet either =/

As for suggestions the closest one that I can think of is Kimi Ga Nomozou Eien.  Though that is a LOT more serious than Nana is.  Not that Nana isn't serious, but KGNE doesn't really have any jokes at all.

before discarding School days. . .have you seen it?
cause seriously . . .something they have in common and something I liked is the fact that, as in our age and civilization, sex is a special moment you share with your girlfriend. . .or in some cases with random girls from your school. . .perfectly normal. . .or maybe you meet a rockstar and have sex with her
unlike some other animes that totally piss me off when the guy is nosebleeding cause he drank from the same can as x girl. . .an "indirect" kiss . . .that is SOO FKING LAME!

so yeah, on that note I RECOMMEND SCHOOL DAYS!

the closest thing to Nana would be Honey and Clover

yeah and KGNE is pretty hard core. . .i havent watched it since the first 3 episodes got me really depressed. . .thats true drama right there

also might recommend Ef - Tale of Memories / Melodies

Another +1 for REC.  If you liked Nana you should definitely like REC

Nana and Beck both deal with Artists but were Beck's focus is on the music and the artists trials to make it big. Nana really focus' more on the poeple and the drama they create by interacting with each other.

REC is ok but the anime is really short. Nana manga is good but has been on hiatus for along time since the artist injured there hand or something. Ristorante Paradiso is a pretty good anime. Its not exactly the same thing as it has nothing to do with entertainment but it does deal with adults and one young adult girls quest for romance.

There's nothing comparable to NANA.

Gogeta, you should try to get laid. You're fixated on something in the series (well, not only in that series...) that is totally not the focus.

I knew nothing of the outside world. I was just a frog in a well.

so iv seen the live action's of nana, and i loved them, nad iv been thinking of picking up the series but i hesitate since iv allready seen the story in live action(did the same with death note, started with the live actions, loved them, hesitated with the anime, finally saw it and was blown away), so how are the anime compeard to the live action, is it worth the 50+ eps if iv seen the movies?

Ok first off all I have seen School Days and it is shit. I think people obsessed with that show have problems.

I have seen Honey and Clover I don't think it was much like NANA except for that the characters were the same age. I also thought it was kinda boring.

I've downloaded Skip Beat and Paradise Kiss to watch already.

Thanks for the recommendation I will download Kimi Ga Nomozou Eien, REC, and White Album for sure.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would recommend watching the anime too because the live actions don't cover everything. And the anime is 47 eps. Trust me you won't regret watching it.

If you like paradise kiss, and can handle a weird animation style, you could then try gokinjo monogatari. it is the same mangaka, and a prequel to parakiss as it is about the older sib of one of the characters...

but the style is rather different so i'm finding myself having a hard time watching more than a couple eps at a time.

hey Chill on it, its not that. Guaranteed.

Its just that nana/school days completely changed my world view of anime
before it was BS like Ah! my goddess and Love Hina. . .but then I saw NANA, where it felt more of  "the real world" type of thing, and yes I know i say sex. . .but w/e its just the fact that the characters arent fking gay (which pisses me off many times)

and yes Nana is an amazing series, up there on my top 10 (and yes way above School days)

and now that I think about it. . . musicwise I really cant find much
and tho you say highschool in nana they're all in College (University)

a good romance/drama I can recall is Bokura ga ita, and Itazura na kiss (actually Itazura na kiss goes from highschool up to what. . .like their late 20's ?)

I said out of high school like meaning college or whatever.

And I do agree with you about School Days and NANA being more like the real world unlike most animes.

Skip Beat and Beck are a little odd in the sense of the high school thing.

Beck I think it's just a road trip (I'm having issues getting into this one for some odd reason even though I hear it's almost a classic just like GTO) with individuals not in school

Skip beat has 1 person working and a school drop out or something to become a star to piss off the bf or something. I'm stalled on this one for some odd reason. I'll probably finish it soon, but I liked what I saw. (Somewhat silly and not realistic though at times)
