i'm sorry but i don't see a case where this is not just a terrible excuse to inflate ones ego.
downloading with a public key is totally fine - i can absolutely understand if people that have slow connections or just slow upload speeds can not or do not want to deal with the ratio pressure. but why upload with the private key afterwards? it's not like you can use that upload buffer for anything because you are downloading your stuff off the record anyway.
if you want to give your best and seed back whatever you can with your limited connection: do it on the public key - that's working just as good from another leechers PoV.
the point is that you are actually doing a disservice to the community as a whole through this practice - by inflating the global-global (overall average) ratio - an indicator if our ratio requirements are well balanced. if both the registered seeder number and overall ratio increases everything is perfect - or at least should be if there isn't a huge blob of fake data in it.
anyway, that's pretty much offtopic.
edit: To Freedom Kira
Just as good for other leechers, but it also means private seeders seed less.
I didn't think of that point. I should probably note that. Are you saying that if people leech more, that's bad? I'm not 100% sure of what you mean. PM your reply if you want.
there is no difference between a private and a public seeder for the community in general, except for the private seeder to boost his ego while doing it.
no, i'm not saying that it's bad if people leech more. i'm saying that if people would be truthful with their stats, and this would result in a global average ratio drop or a global seeder number drop we could see that a lot of users struggle to meet the ratio goal so we would either modify the ratio requirements (for example lower the seed-back requirements further), change the way the ratio number is generated (2x upload / 1x upload for example - just to give you an idea) or think about a ratio-less system (still tracked only with different parameters qualifying a "good seeder").
All actions that would result in them not needing to download as a public user in the first place.
