Tabs Wont Close!
« on: July 27, 2010, 01:40:09 PM »
My firefox tabs refuse to close, first it was the untitled tabs now it seems that the rest of them wont close now.
Clicking the X / CTRL W / Middle clicking do not work, this seems to happen when you're using firefox for awhile.

Could be related to firefox hogging more and more memory after being left on for long periods of time (with a bunch of tabs open)...
You could consider installing a plugin like Tab Mix Plus.
It could solve your problem

I have the same issues as well. Tabs not closing/opening/loading. Firefox 3.6 seems to be as buggy as hell. It crashes upon opening pages with ajax.

Easiest solution is to go with Chrome  ;)

The more plugins you use, the higher chance of it crashing. Not sure if that's your case, but I don't experience much crashes, and I don't use any.

Hmm...I'm using 3.6 and I have only 2 addons, never had a crash. This laptop is a piece of shit, too. Try downloading an older version of firefox?

It also depends on your PC how long ff needs (to load ajax pages)

I knew nothing of the outside world. I was just a frog in a well.

I'm using vanilla firefox 3.6. No extensions, no themes. It doesn't even have flash. It's also a fresh install with a new user profile.

Definitely a bug, i've currently calmed the problem by going to Tools > Tabs > Unchecking all boxes.
See if it fixes the problem.

FF 3.6 has some problems.  Mine is that if I exit after browsing for more than 5 minutes, it does not terminate its process.  The browser window goes away but the process is still running and will run the cpu to 100%.  If I browse for under 5 minutes it will terminate.  Stopped using Firefox.

That happens to me too, although it has happened ever since 3.5, but simply terminating the process works...

Mozilla would have been wise to keep Firefox close to its roots, making it a super-refined and stable version of the original Phoenix/Firebird... It's starting to suffer from the same thing that its predecessor (the old "Mozilla" browser, aka SeaMonkey) did - it's becoming bloated and buggy.

Window task manager -> end process.  Yep, A nice way to have to close your programs.  By the way, have some good anti-virus programs that you should try.

I had this happen once a few days ago, but not any other time, and I've been using 3.6 for quite some time.  It certainly has nothing to do with a virus.

As for the chrome suggestion... Chrome has some compatibility issues on my end. I wonder if Opera is a good alternate suggestion. (Love chrome's look though, so I won't be swapping any time soon)

I love FF for the ctrl+Shift+P for private browsing. Makes me feel better using it on someone else's computer. Don't have to worry about leaving crap history and "showing" what I look at or leaving info on a shared website like hotmail or facebook etc.
This is your home now. So take advantage of everything here, except me.

You are aware that for a while now Opera (and Firefox 4 beta) shares the Chrome minimalistic look? Not to mention, I just checked and there's a Chrome skin for Opera as well.
