simple problem

My computer has suddenly started logging me off my user account about the same time when my screensaver pops up. it's not a problem, but i want to disable this timer that logs me off. Can someone tell me where the options to disable the logging off thing are?

check under the settings when u right click the desk top, might be listed as personalize or whatever, depends on the OS, but check your screen saver settings. you prolly have it set to log you out when your screen saver pops up. I use that setting myself for various reasons, but ya, I can see how it would be annoying.

ah should have mentioned, os is xp. i checked screen saver settings and 'on resume display welcome screen' box was checked. not sure if thats it or not but i unchecked that one now. another thing is that it's also at start up having me select a user account to log on to. never used to do that, always went into windows.

hm, I am not sure off hand, but unless you need multiple accounts, try removing all but the admin acct.
also, somewhere buried you should find a setting as to whether or not you go directly to the desk top or choose a user/password.
play around in the control panel for a bit and you "should" find the fix. I am a bit too lazy to look into the fix for you right now, sorry lol.
It actually may have been related to your first problem, give it a little bit and see if they both work them selves out after unchecking that box.

Your computer most likely is not part of a domain, so this should work (taken from Microsoft's website):

You can also use turn on automatic logon without editing the registry in Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition and in Microsoft Windows XP Professional on a computer that is not joined to a domain. To do this, follow these steps:

   1. Click Start, and then click Run.
   2. In the Open box, type control userpasswords2, and then click OK.
   3. Clear the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" check box, and then click Apply.
   4. In the Automatically Log On window, type the password in the Password box, and then retype the password in the Confirm Password box.
   5. Click OK to close the Automatically Log On window, and then click OK to close the User Accounts window.

Another way is to modify registry, that one works on computers that are part of a domain too.
