Very true, there is a nice little local place in Key West, FL. that I hit up every summer when i'm down there.  They have ridiculously good fudge!

Mind giving me the name if you know it so I can check it out when I go to see grandparents again? ^^"

I think it is called Sweets of Paradise, the fudge is really good, but the key lime pie is not as good as Key lime Pie Co. I can't find a better place for Key lime pie on the island than that place.  I always go to the one at the end of Duval street.  It is a great snack for walking back towards to pier.  ;D

Saying American chocolate tastes bad, and you're only really talking about the big name brands like Hersheys, Nestle, and Mars...well thats like saying American hamburgers are bad because you are basing is off of McDonald's, Burger King and White Castle. There's gotta be hundreds upon hundreds of smaller companies within the US that also make their own brand of chocolate that is delicious. I wouldn't go around saying American chocolate is bad because you don't like Kit Kats. ;)

That taste of America chocolate you are complaining about is from Hershey's. They also have always made the chocolate for the Marc candy company.

Notable exceptions to Hershey's are the Ghirardelli chocolate company of San Francisco, and Guittard. Neither uses the same processes that Hershey's uses, and so produce different flavors to their chocolates.

Most of the small boutique chocolatiers in America do not process their own cocoa beans, and so have the flavor of chocolate of whichever mass producer makes their stock. They usually purchase chocolate in 10 pound bars. They look like a regular chocolate bar, just super-sized.

There is a movement in America that is doing for chocolate what has been done with wines, or coffee, varietal chocolates. Each little region produces beans that are not mixed with beans from all over the planet, but are kept separate. This has the effect of not having a standardized flavor.

Be grateful that sugar and not human blood is used in the making of chocolate today, as it was done by the Aztecs originally.
