Compare your _Mobile_ Internet speed
« on: August 13, 2010, 08:02:42 AM »
So I did a speed test on my phone and the results were ridiculous: my phone can upload MUCH faster than my ADSL line... Fuuuuuuuuuuuu...

The results were generated with the FCC endorsed ookla(the company behind speedtest.net) speed test app and the server was in Seattle.

From top to bottom:
1-3: 3G, in my room located somewhere in Vancouver, Canada
4: 3G, phone horizontally placed inside computer case
5 and 6: home wifi connection.

I'm pretty sure this is faster than US 4G networks, although carrier plans in Canada are beyond hopeless.

So, what about your speed?

All you have to do is study it out. Just study it out.

Depends on how I measure. If I use SpeedTest app for android with a swedish server I get 1.5mbit (turbo3g) and 2mbit (wifi). If I USB tether the phone to my laptop and run swedish specific tptest http://www.bredbandskollen.se/ on the laptop I get 7.6mbit (turbo3g), and 22mbit (wifi).

So either the phone or the speedtest app is limiting the speed so I can't get an accurate measurement.
Memories are meant to fade. They're designed that way for a reason.

Just went on vacation and the Hotel didnt have reliable WiFi so I tethered my phone. Was getting constant speeds of 2.0Mbps down and 800kbps-1Mbps up. This was on AT&T 3G in the Tampa Bay area.

Phone connected to my laptop:

Well, the phone does not support HS(D|U)PA, only UMTS, so the results are as expected.

My average on wifi is

9.80mbps down and .60 mbps up

On so called "3G" on the blackberry storm
187kbps down & up *using Cisco GIST speedtest app
I believe its using 2G, even though Verizon claims 3G is available in my area. The only things I see on the phone are "1XEV" and full bars.

HSDPA / 3G-     2.47 MB D/ 0.98 MB U/
ADSL / home-   7 MB D/ 50 Kb/s up.... that's ghetto.

Vodafone uk on both, also note down speeds on torrent data are capped at 700 Kb/s ... >_>

Line integrity my arse.
