It's the end of the world as you know it and he is trying to survive. That didn't take confidence nor a large amount macho or ego. It was pure, unadulterated, alpha-male survival instinct. That, and the directors wanted to highlight a squishy boob grab. But, whether they copulated or not, he knew she gets off on things like that from the conversation they had the night prior. She is a masochist through and through.

the only thing the director is doing is completely destroying the original plot and creating a new, original story line.

the problem is they messed the order of events, how are they gonna fix this is beyond me cuz this was a pretty crucial time in the manga, at this point they can even end the show with an all death episode cuz they screwed it up too much to repair.
