utorrent 2.03?
« on: August 17, 2010, 05:12:15 AM »
just wondering if anyones upgraded to utorrent 2.03. I heard some screwy things about it in the beta, and am wondering if i should go for it it or stick with my older 2.02 version. It mentinos something about updating your firewall afterwards so im guessing its a pretty major change

Upgraded from 2.01 when I got internet back at the end of July. Saw a big jump in Upload speed. I've seen no problems so far.

I've got it running on a SB. The major problem with utorrent is that the error it gives you is fucking pointless.
error: ?? That's fucking helpful.

rtorrent would give me a a proper error code... to bad it was fucking up hardcore.

I was using utorrent 2.02 then 2.03 but they wouldn't let me upload at all. I was uploading just fine on other trackers though. So I switched to Deluge and it lets me upload but very very slowly. I just noticed that I'm at 24.99GB downloaded and just under 5GB uploaded so I hope I'm not in trouble because I am trying to seed. I even got a few things I don't even want because they have leechers but still only like 6KB/s upload if any at all. I'll be switching ISPs in a couple weeks when I move. Hopefully that'll fix it.

edit-I moved my PC upstairs and plugged in (I was using wi-fi) and now one torrent is seeding at around 50KB/s. I set my other downloads to 1KB/s as I can't set it to 0 and still seed them at the same time, If they decide to seed at all that is.

Been using 2.0.3 for about a week or so now.  No noticeable change from 2.0.2 or 2.0.1.  Worked seemlessly from the first minute with bakabt torrents.

Can't get my total upload to break about 620 K, usually hovers around 500.  DL usually max's @~1.8 Mbit, but in a heavy swarm I've seen it sustain @~2.2-2.4.

I'm on a 15/5 fios connection, but actual ratings have hovered @~20 DL and ~6-7 upload on the best server connections I can find.  So, the potential is there ... but, no matter how many tweaks I've played with, utorrent can't seem to break the first numbers I listed.

Otherwise, been a utorrent fan since approx. ver. 1.4 or so.  Haven't found anything I'd rather dink around with.
I win, once again, in my never-ending struggle against victory.

I was using 2.02 but some of the private trackers I use wont let you use it(something to do with seed connections or sumat  i dont know)
so Im back using 1.85.When I was using 2 my up and dlds were alot stabler and didnt fluctuate as much.

The Problem with the later versions of uTorrent, is that they have implemented a new protocol.

This protocol gives other users of uTorent more bandwith over regular users, it was implemented in 2.01 or 2.02, don't remeber exactly.

That is why some trackers ban the uTorrent, due to not giving equal to all.

The µTP protocol is good for better network management, and it's fully open, but only µTorrent has implemented it. banning it for its innovation is rather ridiculous, and thankfully none of the trackers I'm on has banned it. The only reason it "prefers" other µTP clients is because it's not bound by the limit of half-open TCP connections for outbound connections, as other clients currently are. The chance that it will make a connection via the less cumbersome UDP is of course there, though it doesn't deliberately choose µTP clients over non-µTP clients.

It was implemented in µTorrent 2.0 (not counting earlier betas) and is therefore rather irrelevant to kenshin-dono's thread.

I have no issues with 2.03. Not sure of what kind of things you've heard about it.
