The shower/bath
« on: August 27, 2010, 03:50:45 AM »
When do you shower. . .before you go to sleep or after you wake up?

cause I was debating with a friend:

cons
- showering in the morning: why would you shower before going out and getting dirty at whatever you are going to do
- showering at night: why would you shower before sleeping since you are going to sleep and sweat

pros
- showering in the morning: you wake up, you shake off all the sweat from sleeping
- showering at night: you get hot and ready for bed and you shake off all the sweat and dirty from your day.

. . .

While underway I only shower once and that's at night because I have a hard time getting a good nights rest in my tiny rack on the ship so I have a super hard time waking up in the morning; add in the fact that almost everyone else showers in the morning and it makes waiting to take a shower a good way to be late.

While in home-port I shower both in the morning and at night. It's convenient and I like the feeling of hot water on my skin.

I'll take a bath when I want to relax. Only when I'm at home, though, there aren't any bathtubs on the ship (not that I'd want to use them if there were).

The linear nature of your Euclidean geometry both confounds and befuddles me.

I shower in the morning,  it helps me wake up.  Plus, I like to feel clean when I start my day.

I shower in the morning.

My mentality is... you stink either way. I'd rather stink in my own bed with no one around instead of walking into the world smelling like a dead rat.

Pretty much this.

Sometimes I'll shower twice a day if I've worked up a sweat.  Showering about an hour before sleep is bliss...  especially if you washed your sheets that day...

Damn... now I wish it wasn't midnight......  DAMN YOU TIME!  YOU WIN AGAIN!

I vary depending on my schedules. . .like if its late sometimes I shower at night by thinking "Ill wake up 30 minutes late cause I dont have to shower in the morning" or something along those lines so sometimes I take a shower on monday morning and dont take a shower till tuesday night ;D. . .I use "eau de toilette" so no worries there
also when I shower at night since Im in no rush I shave and stuff. . .I cant do that in the morning rush  :-\

I have pretty long hair, so when I wash it, I like to do it mid evening so it can dry a little.

But usually, I shower right after I get through with a workout. If I'm not working out, then I'll do it right before dinner.

I was never a fan of morning showers. Putting on clothes after a shower always was unappealing to me

For me, it's always depended on the job I worked. When I worked fast food during high school / college, I usually worked evening/closing shifts, so I showered at night. There was no way I wanted to get into bed smelling like garlic, grease, and various chemicals. And there's no point showering in the morning/afternoon before walking into a job like that. Even on days off, I usually showered at night for the same reasons Proin cited -- less competition for dorm showers at night vs. the mornings. I solved the night sweat problem by keeping my room unusually cool.

When I was teaching classes in grad school, I went to morning showers, although they occasionally had to be skipped for time constraints.

My showering schedule depends on what I'm supposed to do in the week.

For example: I'm working a whole day (builds up quite the sweat), I rather shower before going to sleep 'cause otherwise I'm just feeling sticky and shit. Compared to the sweat you build up over night this is quite gross. I'm also in the knowledge that the next day I'm going up for work again, where everyone is having the same circumstances so it doesn't really matter.

But if I got school I shower in the morning, gives me a fresh start and can go around in public a whole day feeling clean.  ;D

Evening, I never sweat unless it is very hot, and even then I never get stinky from sweat ever.
If I go too long without showering, I'll feel dirty, but I won't stink.

Shower in the morning for me. Wakes me up a lot. If I shower in the evening I have a lot of trouble sleeping.

Baths however, can be either as long as they are luxuriously long.

...

I miss my bathtub ;_;

Usually in the morning so that I can wake up. Depending on the work I've done that day I might shower in the evening also. I almost don't sweat at all, not even when I work out on hot days, I think it's actually a medical condition. I think I can go without a bath for 4-5 days without anyone noticing (tested it).

I shower when I wake up. Then I shower when I get home from college, since I walk home (1½ miles) and the weather is usually in the 100°F range. So you can imagine how stinky I am when I get home after carrying my laptop backpack around with my laptop, big Law books and other shit in it. But it's good exercise, especially since I'm trying to lose some extra weight.

Almost always shower in the morning.  Showering wakes me up, and well thats not a good thing right before I try to go to sleep.

Only expectations are if I have been doing a lot of dirty work that day, or mowing the lawn.  I'm somewhat allergic to fresh cut grass :(.  Then I take a shower as soon as I'm done.

Just remember,  before you criticize someone, walk a mile in there shoes.  That way you are a mile away and have their shoes. :P

cons
- showering in the morning: why would you shower before going out and getting dirty at whatever you are going to do
Showering in the morning is indeed refreshing. This is not a con, it's the biggest point in its favor.

LOL no! Who sweats and gets dirty while fucking sleeping?!

Hot 'n ready? I'm not baking a cake here. I live in the desert, I shower with cold water 9 months a year.

To summarize, I shower at night.
1. You wash off the sweat, dirt, and stickiness of the day.
2. You are clean, so your bed sheets and pillow don't get really dirty.
3. You are clean, so after a good night's sleep, you can go to work still feeling fresh.

It is my impression that most people shower in the morning because they stay up late and the shower makes them really wake up. For example, if you go to bed at 02:00, an 8-hour sleep means you need to wake up at 10:00, which is late for most schedules. So what do you do? You cut time from your sleep, shower at 7:00, and you "instantly" wake up... but then you have to take a nap sometime in the day.

They should really try showering at night, around 22:00, going to bed at 23:00, sleeping 8 hours, waking up at 7:00, and going to work. Simples!

Bath at night, just a wash in the morning

you have a bath at night so you don't sleep in your own filth.

Not much reason to shower or bath in the morning, been sleeping in a clean bed so....nothing has changed....

I shower at night, every few days (me, get up early in the morning?). I'm not anywhere hot, and I don't move much, so I don't sweat. Deoderant is enough to get me through the day in most cases. My body and hair just feels too gross and dry without any natural oils, even using lotions.
