I can't open torrent files.
« on: September 01, 2010, 04:01:32 AM »
I looked on the FAQ and the only problems it seemed to think I may have are related to being warned or having a poor ratio.

However, I have a decent ratio( 1.7ish) and cannot think of any other reason I would be having this trouble.

I have tried several different torrent of varying newness and so it's not a problem with the individual torrent.

Any suggestions?

Are you getting any error message? Also, which client are you using?
I’m in your noun, verb-ing your related noun.

I am not getting any error messages. When I go to download the file it says it is preparing for download, but never initializes.

I am using utorrent.

are you talking about downloadint the .torrent file from the site? if yes, then try using a different browser/computer/internet connection to isolate the problem.

if its an issue with opening the .torrent file using utorrent, then appropriate troubleshooting is in order.
first, be sure that the .torrent files you're downloading aren't corrupt. this usually isn't the case since utorrent usually checks if .torrent files are viable.
next, check if a different version of utorrent has this same issue on the same computer. if so, then your computer may be having issues running utorrent IF the next point is false.
then, check if a different torrent client is having the same issue. if this is the case and it occurs when your torrent client prepares for your download, then something is blocking your torrent clients from allocating disk space for your files.

i was thinking.... do you even have utorrent

but it could be utorrent needing a clean out in
"C:\Users\<YOUR NAME HERE>\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent"
or
"%appdata%/utorrent"

try drag and drop? or right click the torrent download location in your browser and click save as.

I  restarted my computer and the problem seems to have resolved itself. Thanks, anyway.

Thought i had report this here since it's still unlocked. I do sometimes get the "Invalid torrent file" error when downloading from other sites. But i never got it from nyaa previously. I tried re-downloading the torrent file many times, even directly from nyaa. Still it's not working. Its THORA's darker than black torrent, 16.8GB. I can't provide a link here but you guys can find out yourself in their site i presume. It sayd 47 seeders to 38 torrents too. Anyone else having the same problem? And it fits in this thread because, in a sense, i can't "open" them.

it could be your isp blocking/scrambleing your download of .torrent files thats why nyaa has a save as .txt in which all you need to do is change the extention

I already tried that .txt file thing. And if my ISP was doing stuff with all my torrents, why would every single other torrent work? Only a few selected sites have faulty files. BBT, nyaa, TPB, Demonoid, isohunt and all those renowned sites don't have any problem with any torrent file. This is the first it seems. I have been experiencing it from a long time. Tried to download this same torrent for a few months.

I'm sure Nyaa isn't the only site with a torrent with those files. Look on a different site. If you don't know where to look, use Google. Just be wary of your results, and use vague search terms like "darker than black torrent thora".

If you're getting 'invalid torrent file' for a particular torrent, find the torrent on TT and use the magnet link there (animesuki has magnet links as well)(though you have to manually add the tracker(s), and only works if the torrent isn't private...)

Thanks for that. I used the magnet link and added the tracker. Everything fine now. Thanks again. ;D
