"Server" computer suggestions

<< < (5/5)

per:
One thing that surprised me when I was building a silent always-on computer (not that I ever turn of any of my computers, but.. :))
was that a core-i3 with a low-power motherboard actually uses less power (when idle) than an atom-based solution.

The price difference is not exactly large either.

My new computer is for running uTorrent, and will probably not be 100% idle due to that, but some more CPU-power can come in  handy at times anyway.

The computer does not have an HDD, it has a passive cooler on the CPU, and a passive powersupply. It used 22W of power when I measured
(I don't have the measuring thing connected to it right now).

The thing cost me about $300, but I reused some parts from old builds.

It is not exactly a fileserver, though.
