Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls

* Hyakka Ryouran: Samurai Girls is Hobby Japan's 40th anniversary mediamix project. The franchise includes a light novel series by Suzuki Akira and Niθ, published by HJ Bunko (a publishing label aimed at young adult males); a manga series by Shinano Yura published in shounen/seinen magazine Dengeki Daioh; a 4-koma web comic by Kazahana Chiruo; this anime adaption by ARMS; figurines and so forth.

The era is Heisei 20+ in the reign of the 25th Tokugawa Shogun, Keikou. In the Christian calendar, it’s a bit past 2000 in the Empire of Japan.

In the skirts of the Sacred Mount Fuji, there’s an enormous school built in a vast area. Its name is Buou Private Academy. All students are children of samurai and while encouraged to study, they spend their days preparing themselves in battles that sometimes put their life in risk.

A peaceful school at first glance, but even there a shadow of turbulence draws near: the rebellious underground activities of discontents that oppose the Tokugawa clan that rules the school. Against the dissident students, the student council executive committee formed the Toyotomi Faction and began their suppression. Now with the Toyotomi Hunting as it became known, the tyranny of the student council escalated further.

The high school student Yagyuu Muneakira who attends the Buou Private Academy and is also the assistant instructor of fencing at the Yagyuu Dojo, while a servant to the Tokunaga family, he was opposed to the excessive oppression of the Toyotomi Hunting. And before Muneakira appeared several girls carrying the names of the ancient swordsmen and generals. Is that the beginning of a commotion that will shake the History or is it—?

Just watched the first ep and I'm hooked, the art style is new to me. I haven't seen it in any other anime before, giving it a 3D feel of sort.

Although I did think that the echii'ness of the anime is a bit high (lol) I'd say at a High School lv perhaps..... idk maybe I'm getting old lol.

Anyways something good to watch, mos def.

Only thing right now is :-\

I downloaded the first episode when Himatsubishi released it and been waiting for a chance with enough time to watch it. I did skim through it earlier though and the art style looked like one of those Naruto or Dragonball games my young cousin likes to play on his old PS2...

I will be watching it tomorrow though and maybe I will like it. Always looking for something different.

I find out about it last night and I thought it looked promising. Big tits and sword fights, just my kind of shit. The censorship looks heavy though but they're using a original way to do it. I read AT-X's also gonna air this so maybe we'll get a less censored version.

I thought it wasn't gonna air until october, so thanks for the info.

Sucks that we're gonna have to wait a month for episode2 though.

Well I'm off to watch it now.

EDIT:Well I watched it and I think it was great. I'll definitely follow this.

First thing I noticed is that Kenpachi's the narrator.

Secondly, the art style is definitely unique but I don't really like the ink spots and strokes when there's action, it's kinda distracting. Not huge deal though coz the rest's gorgeous.

Thirdly but more importantly, WTF IT'S MAKOTO!
I have a bad feeling about this.

So we have again famous Japanese persona from the sengoku era/ancient Japan thrown into an alternative present. I hope they can keep the fanservice to a minimum since the stylistic elements would kinda be wasted on that kind of show. The style strongly reminds me of the intros of Street Fighter 4 and Super Street Fighter 4.

Obstorm, you think the fanservice to be on the level of HsotD? O_o You should rewatch HsotD...

I hope when the series actually starts airing Himatsubushi isn't the only one subbing this show.

I agree, Himatsubushi had a few errors in the translation of this episode but they were mostly minor. I wouldn't mind if commie or gg or maybe even mazui had a crack at this episode/series and see what they come up with.

Far as the show itself, I think I could come to like this. Although not 100% original, it has enough original elements and characters styles to make it totally worth me seeing where this goes. So here goes to waiting for a month for the next episode to see if it remains consistent.

One thing though...

Your right. I would never have thought they could mess up such an historic figure in such a huge way...

I meant something A High Schooler (age 15+; mainly in refrence to the mistress scene lol) No that damn T&A Anime.....

Well if ppl are looking for less censorship already whats the point of asking for minimal fanservice? wouldn't be almost the same thing?

I actually like the art style of this show, the ink drops are interesting, they aren't in the way as well, new idea to anime, might work out well, the censoring is smart as well, looks interesting, I don't even mind the censoring at all, they can leave it as is if you ask me.

How long have you been watching anime now if you still can't answer that question yourself? Of course when the optical media of the anime is sold.
