New iPod family (and more)
« on: September 06, 2010, 09:43:05 PM »
So, anyone already saw the new lineup for holiday season?. . .just watched the keynote and here are my thoughts:

-iPod shuffle:
they did good, as mr. Jobs said people missed the buttons. . . the interface was too weird and the fact that you couldnt use any headphone set was just bad. The new gen looks pretty nice, smaller than the 2nd but they kept the good things from the 3rd.

-iPod nano:
I cant really say I loved this new one, I did like it a lot (probably getting it next month) but their focus on making things smaller doesnt always work. I think its too small now, they should've at least kept the screen size of the last gen. iPod nano. also they removed the camera feature which was a real big thing on the las gen.

-iPod Touch:
flawless, nothing wrong here. as he said "an iphone without the phone" . . .marvelous design, thinner than ever and more featured pack than ever.

====

Other than that. Steve Jobs just rox your sox for talking man. . .he is like THE speaker. and the new China store just looks awesome!

not much news other than that.
the only thing i was displeased was that he called the iPod touch a "gaming console" and that it pwnz Nintendo and Sony combined. . .I mean c'mon half of the people that buy the iPod touch just buy it for the internet/ipod. . .not for gaming.

good stuff tho. . .

I've not looked into it majorly, just happened to spot that new stuff was out the other day.

I was thinking about getting an apple tv for my flat to watch films from, but the $99 apparently translates to £99 so I thought fuck that. England always gets the bad prices :/

I'll always believe that the iPod Classic has TOO MUCH memory ... the only thing to fill that up (and wouldnt be enough) is to fill it with anime. . .wouldnt do that tho. still 240 GB is a lot! its not like it was redesigned

I never understood the hype about Apple MP3 players. Is it any better? Sure Iphones and Itouch have that nifty Touchscreen tech that is absolutely amazing but what about the music players? Do they have better sound clarity?

I myself would love a 240Gb Ipod classic. I got a 160Gb currently and I only have about 1/4th of the music I got on there and it's full.  Heck I got 120Gb on this laptop alone not even counting the externals and the NAS

No, they're not better (they're worse in most ways that count). No, their "touchscreen tech" isn't better than anyone else's. Nothing is special about their hardware or software. They do not have better sound quality (it's pretty garbage).

They also suffer from a rather extreme lack of file support. They only support mp3 and mp4 file types (maybe avi?). My player (a Cowon V5; I find the interface comfortable, others don't) supports all of the major file formats for both video and audio (including lossless) as well as supporting soft-subtitles.

And Reggie Fils-Aime is a way better presenter and public speaker than Steve Jobs.

The linear nature of your Euclidean geometry both confounds and befuddles me.

yeah. . I have a library of like 2.8k songs. . .out of all those. . .probably I know 2.5k and the other 300 are completely unknown to me (i wouldnt even know why they are there). . .out of those 2.5k probably 2k have been played once at the most . . .
so. . .i think having 20k songs is kinda useless. . .(IMO)
I mean say each song lasts around 4 mins
thats what 80k minutes worth of music. . .thats *calculates* 55.5 days. . .and thats just playing every song once. . .

who cares if you listen to even song in your library i know i have at least a 1000 songs in mine that are there cuz other people wanted to hear shit. Point being that you make your library as full as possibly so you can use it for entertainment with more people and have a harder time getting bored with your music.

I've got  about 20GB of Music and around 700GB of Video (less than half of which is anime), I mostly use it to listen to music in the car and at work and to watch video in bed, it's very fun and served me well over the 5 odd years I've had it.

240GB would let me take around all the stuff I haven't watched (roughly 100GB) plus my music and then include some of my favourite series and films to bring along and watch whenever I want to. Although what would probably happen is that I would simply rip more of my DVDs and use that to fill up the space.
