Japanese manga has it too..

In fact, it was mentioned in 20th century boys about the hand pointing direction to how manga is read

Well I wont say they need the arrows on every page but they are there for poeple that have never read the work before. People that dont read manga much wont know that its read right to left. Just like someone that reads alot of manga and never manwha might not realize that manwha is read like english left to right. Alot of these books are sold in book stores were poeple that have never read these type of books before will see them.

I see.  How about having them only in the first volume, as anyone reading 2+ will have presumably read one and understand how it works.

I'm under the impression that these arrows are not common, as I own 198 printed volumes but none have the arrows in them.

I don't think you know what weeaboo means.

Rather than someone obsessed with Japanese culture, these mangas are designed for the exact opposite, a person without even a basic knowledge of how their language works. I'm not saying there shouldn't be anything... I just think if you don't know how to read manga, then you'll open it backwards and see the stop sign... If you know how to read manga you won't see it at all. Perfect. The "Read this way" at the top of multiple pages gives the reader no credit, and is also distracting.

Apparently it's also a wanna be Japanese or something.

note: is the term Jap considered offensive?

It calls back to WWII when the phrase was dehumanizing and a way to think about the enemy without giving him a face. For similar reasons, Brits isn't particular offensive because it's what they called themselves in fondness.. Words come to gain associations, but they also lose those associations with passing generations.

I'd say if you enjoy wearing wifebeaters, you probably shouldn't use the word... And if you don't, you probably don't use the word anyway. What do you want to say? "Those Japs sure do know their sake!" ? "The Japs make great cartoons!" ? It really sounds awkward, when you consider the context that word is more familiar to.

On topic posts should include pictures ;) I've heard that manga alluded to in Welcome to the NHK, and was almost curious enough to find out what it was. Unfortunately, the wiki states many times (incredibly redundantly) that the humour is focused on pop culture references, and I mostly watch obscure anime so I probably wouldn't get them.

eeh... A litle, The 1st character you'll see, Keichi Morisato, calls to heaven via phone, a goddess awnsers it and comes down to earth to fullfill one, only one, wish for Keichi.
Keichi wishes for the Goddess to live forever with him, after that they just meet a LOT of VERY,VERY diffrent problems, it has fantastic style of drawing (all hail Kosuke Fujishima), a LOT of comedy, etc., etc. :P

also Chef,
I'll post more pictures when I get the order from US, I don't feel like taking pictures of 3 mangas that I've got after my last picture...
