Lol spam much.

Has anyone ever bought manga online before? Because I would want to know if you ever got any damaged book. I'm very reluctant to order from Amazon as I don't know if they'll arrive in a perfect new state.

If you count ordering straight from the publisher, then yes :P

And ... ?? You didn't answer the real question. Were they ever damaged, in any way, like a bent corner or creased?

I did, from www.archonia.com. Mostly a friend orders them and sometimes she askes me if i want some so we order them together.
Normally they are in rather good status. Ofc sometimes there will be a few (little) scratches but I think (and hope) that happened during transport.

That's exactly what I don't want. I have only one manga with a scratch (like when you write with an empty ballpoint on paper, that cavity that's left instead of the ink) and that's because I foolishly tore off the plastic with a pair of scissors. I don't want anything like that ever again. If the manga I order at my local mangashop have scratches/cavities I'll just refuse them, which makes me a huge jerk because they have to manually order each week if it isn't available in the first week and it's not a real thriving shop so they need the business I provide them (they even changed their collection because of me lol), but that's how much I care.
I'll collect some more customer experiences before actually buying something. So please every person who has bought manga online tell me if they were ever damaged in any way (slight scratch is damage to me), especially from Amazon.

Damaged books, you return them to Amazon.  Great service.  They will ship one to you RIGHT AWAY and not charge you for the new one, you ship them the old one with a provided box, and they won't charge you unless they don't receive it after 60 days

Yep, thats a big no no. I'll refuse them as well and make the shop assistant order a new copy over.

When I ordered Welcome to the NHK in store from Coles (same company as Chapters, Indigo... whatever), 5 of the books were fine, but 1 had about 20 pages at the top ripped even though it was in shrink wrap so I couldn't check in store when I picked it up. I was really pissed off. The other two from the series were the ones I was able to find on the shelf at a chapters downtown. I checked a lot of stores, but I guess I need to have gone to a specialty shop if I was going to make real progress.

I'd say what happened to me was a freak accident, but I've also ordered an album from Amazon.ca where the jewel case had an unsightly scratch on it... If it doesn't come in a box, you've basically got to accept the risk that someone shipping them isn't really paying attention and is probably handling them roughly.

Wilfried, do you just buy every manga that gets translated ?? haha. Your collection is really pretty, regardless.

Really?  I thought it would be quite rude to do something like that, not something that would represent my school well (I visit in school hours)

haven't seen any of theirs... All I've seen are always from Egmont...
Well, I can get manga from Fantasia Pelit too if I want more choises :P
It isa shame that they have got only 2 shops... 1 in Helsini and on in Tampere...
But they have better manga selection, there is also english translated manga and anime figures :P There is all the manga/anime stuff they sell in their shops can't be obtained anywhere else from Finland, well, of-course you can get that stuff if you order via internet as well :P but they have a good selection .P the average price is 9.99USD :P They sell stuff for example: Shoujo Beat.
I bought OHSHC by random from their shop in Helsinki :P

What has Punainen Jättiläinen published?

IIRC the one that is in Helsinki is the larger one.. Havent visited the one that is in Tampere. But as I live in Tampere, maybe I visit it tomorrow.. :3

What has Punainen Jättiläinen published?
quick list for PJ
and quick list for Egmont

what I hate in Finland's manga publishing is that almost every manga is for girls (Shoujo-manga) or overrated shounen-shit.. (Naruto) *haters gonna hate*

yeah I quite agree with you. there are a couple of comic shops where I live that focus more on north american comics and ccg's but they both have a modest manga selection and usualy sell at a cheaper price than chapters however there have been afew times they lost a sale with me because the covers were scratched or the spine was damaged.  Even though I like to support the little guys when I can I refuse to buy a damaged manga when the big book stores can sell me one in new condition
