In my time, I've had three injuries, none requiring hospitalization:
1. When I was 15, I was in a dorm at Simpson College in San Francisco (I was on a western tour out of NC and we stayed at a lot of dorms). I had these drink holders (the kind with neoprene). Two of my fellow tour-mates decided to play keep-away with one of them and I started chasing them, when all of a sudden, KAWHAM!! I run headfirst into a steam pipe jutting out from the wall. Lucky for me it didn't require stitches, but I still have that crescent-shaped scar.
2. Second was when I was 23 and in college marching band. We had just finished pregame at Homecoming and I was walking back into the stands with my sousaphone on. I either tripped or slipped and fell down as I was entering the bleachers. I thought I had hurt my knee, but that pain went away really quickly.
Not so much one of the joints in my right foot. I don't mean my ankle, which would have been bad enough. This joint is on the top of my foot. You don't realize how much you use that when you walk until you sprain it. It hurt like a motherf---er and did for weeks.
3. One more. One Homecoming after I graduated from college I was marching in the alumni band. I had a baritone horn (they didn't have tubas for the alumni). There is this hill down to the practice field. It's not that steep or long, so I decided to charge down the hill to get onto the practice field...except I forgot that the hill turns upward to go to the practice field. My feet dug into the ground at that point and I fell forward...right onto my right shoulder. The baritone horn left a huge bruise on my right arm, but the sprain of my right shoulder made it almost impossible to drive home (I had to use my left hand to operate the ignition) or put on non-buttondown shirts. It didn't fully heal for about 4 months or more, and even now it hurts from time to time.
