The first episodes of both the Higurashi and Umineko VNs are free for download from the translation sites and 07th Expansions site. :v
I only got what you meant now. XD herp derp logic fail.
But yeah, I only download things for free to try them out - if I like them I'll buy them.

I've played a lot of VNs... some of the best would be Fate/Stay Night, Tsukihime and Kagetsu Tohya, Saya no Uta, Castle Fantasia 2, Aoi Shiro, Sekien no Inganock, Yandere and last but not least, the epic School Days. I've played almost every English-translated ones that I could find, and started learning Japanese just so I can play all the Sono Hanabira ones and School Days. 4 months of hardcore studying and mission accomplished (besides my already known anime-level Japanese). It was worth it.

Gross as in bloody? And same here, reading a VN for 100+ hours even if it is worth the time.... BTW it is my first. So you could say i never completed any.
