I have played and liked. Tsukihime was my first one.
Others to mention: Shuffle,Fate/Stay Night and Saya No Uta + few others.

In my opinion it's like reading an interactive book with nice pics here and there. ^^
Thanks Enzie!

Yes.  I have played VNs.  I was lucky enough to have played Fate/Stay Night as my first and Tsukihime as my second.  I tried playing Umineko but didn't get very far.  Something put me off it - maybe the horrible drawings - I don't know.  I have more than what is on the list.

Played:
Fate/Stay Night
Tsukihime
Kagetsu Tohya
Utawarerumomo
Planetarian
Sono Hanabira 1

Playing:
Princess Waltz
Kannon
Higurashi
Lightning Warrior Raidy (not really a VN; more a Yuri dungeon crawler)

Want to play:
Yume Miru Kusuri: A drug that makes you dream
Clannad
Air
Shuffle
Da Capo
Chaos Head
X-Change
X-Change 2
Lightning Warrior Raidy 2
Tears no Tiara
Clannad: Tomoya After

Unfortunately, I hardly find the time to play VNs. So all I played were FSN and Clannad. I wanted to play Tomoyo After but I never found a translation. Does someone know if there is one out now? Would really appreciate this information. : )

Played:
- Fate/Stay Night
- Clannad

Want to play:
- Tomoyo After
- Higurashi
- Tsukihime

Progress on the translation can be found here.

The project admin dropped it on Aug10, and not much is getting done.  Maybe 1/3 is translated

Katawa Shoujo looks promising, download the 1st chapter demo it's great

Those who say visual novels are boring should maybe try some titles with more explosions and action instead of slice of life moege.

I'd rather just read a book and let my imagination go further

But that's just personal preference.

Even before it got dropped it was moving at a snail's pace, like 1-3 lines a week.

The main translation projects I'm looking forward to right now are Muv-Luv Alternative and YU-NO.

Currently playing:

Wind - A Breath Of Heart
Yume Miru Kusuri

played:

Narcissu.

I'm quite new to the VN scene, but up to now I really like what I read.
It's a really interesting concept, but not many people outside Japan seem to like it, sadly.

Still I think VNs should be more platform independent (like nScripter which can be executed on many different OSes) but that's only a personal opinion since the only Windoze-PC (where Wind and Yume Miru Kusuri are on) is currently dying and I don't want my hours wasted :(

I just remember.  The best VN of all time: Kana-- Little sister.  The ending still makes me sad to this day.

My favorite VN is...  Probably still Cross Channel.  There are a lot that I've liked, but that one just really stands out to me.  (Also it is where I found my waifu, so that has to count for something...)

It is the one that touched me the most as well. Kind of sad that there wasn't an ending that ended as I wanted it to, just like 5 other ones. :/

Did you get ending 1?  You need to get 2&3 first.  Play this flash extension to the game, it's very well done and has music and everything. http://www.the-z-projects.com/kana/index.html

I mostly play them for the story lines and the humour that most of them have.

I find them to be a lot more immersive than anime or manga for some reason or another.

Probably because you can choose a route.

Het Lutador, I love your sig.

Wait what.
There are people here who don't know Clannad?
What's more, people who play VNs who don't know Clannad?
I got to admit, that surprised me.
