Have you ever played a Visual Novel?

Gyakuten Saiban Series (does it count? It's got a lot of VN-ish aspects, so... But I like it.)

Sakura Wars: So long, my love (Yeah, was quite nice, especially since I'm a Fujishima fan and also a New Yorker at heart)

Deardrops (Ah well, was quite nice, but didn't catch my attention that much)

Galaxy Angel (Reminded me of Sakura Taisen. Dropped it b/c I didn't like the combat system)

Overall, I'm not a big fan of the genre. Characters often tend to be too much the same and the stories are sometimes plain boring. (This is based on the VN animes I've seen this far). I might give the Disgaea VN, coming to PSN this month, a shot b/c I like Disgaea, but all in all, it's not my genre. If I want a game with a lot of story, I play a RPG or games like Heavy Rain or God of War.

Well, I can't speak for any of the others, but Galaxy Angel and Sakura Wars have two of the most bland protagonists ever.  You should try something like Ever17 or Sharin no Kuni.  Also I believe Narcissu is free and pretty good.

I only recently played my first Visual Novel:

Kana ~Imöto~ / Kana ~Little Sister~

I blame Kiss x Sis for choosing this one as my first :P

Liked it more than expected actually and now have in my To Play queue following VN's:

Clannad
Fate/Stay Night: Realta Nua
Jouka no Monshou
KiraKira
Yosuga no Sora (although it's not completely translated :()

Everybody should play Tsukihime... that's the epitome of all VNs. No other VN can beat it in terms of storyline.

I just played fsn, and am playing umineko. Are there any other cool vn about fighting / mistery?

Tsukihime

It's made by the same guys who did fate/stay night. It's got both fighting and mystery. A heck of a lot of mystery.
