Buy at 40% and sell at as much as 260%?!?!?

You guys are clearly far better than I am at this.

I'm nearing the 80,000 deadline with barely enough & lvl 13 merchant.

I usually buy at 60-70% and sell at 110-130% for normals, 160% for high demand stuff.

fun game, really addicting.

(click to show/hide)When there is a shortage of stuff, high demand etc (displayed on the news ticker), you stock up on those items and buff up your prices 220-260% depending on whether it's your regular customer or not. Normal items usually go for 112-135%.
When buying stuff from commoners if you don't care about it you may start as low as 40%, if you're indifferent start at 55%, but if you like it 60-65%, and go up by 10% if they haggle.

Of course, visiting the dungeon is necessary, but it's a big gamble...

BrownMasterV:
You can get 200-300% easily on 'high price' stuff.
I tend to stock up on stuff when it's 'low price', and I never sell stuff that is low price.

I have about 200K right now

What I found out after failing the final 500,000 payment...Major spoiler ahead.

(click to show/hide)Actually when it's normal demand, it's better to aim for xp. Try to hit near pin's (near pin = price close to what the npc expects) and roll that first price xp bonus. ie the npc accepts your first offer, no haggling. If you can keep up the chain (sell at first price without a rejection consecutively), the xp bonus will hit +128 This is on top of the near pin bonus so it's possible to hit 150+ bonus xp on a sell late in the chain. If you sell things by haggling, you only get 10xp per sell in comparison.

You make a little less money this way, but the merchant levels you gain will even things out by opening up fusions faster, expanding your bag space and stocking the npc shops with higher level items earlier in the game.

You can typically hit a near pin selling at 104% for almost everybody. With Alouette and the little girl you can hit 106% and 105%.

Wait till it's high demand to make most of your money. With haggling, it's possible to sell as high as 300% on red items for almost all npc's.
