PSU not enough for graphics card?

(1/3) > >>

Temuthril:
I bought a GTS 250 recently, and it says this on the package:

--- Code: ---
Minimum 550W or greater system power supply (with a minimum 12V current rating of 24A).
--- End code ---
My PSU is 450W though (Huntkey V-Power 450W), and if I understood correctly, it only gives 18A on 12V. On Windows everything works fine, but occasionally when playing Starcraft 2 the whole computer can freeze up. Should I be worried?

vuzedome:
Go get a 550W or better yet, a 650W.

Temuthril:
I'm wondering about the random freezes. Can the lack of amps cause it?

vuzedome:
Maybe, never heard of it happening.

bloody000:
A quick google tells me that your PSU is, well, crap. Buy a new >500W one from well-known brands such as Corsair, PCP&C, Seasonic, etc.
