new HDD with error in SMART
sapsa:
Hey,
Like I said I did, I bought new HDD (i got 3 same models)
Its Samsung HD103SJ 1TB, but this one got:
(C8) Write Error Rate with value of 1.
I didn't copy anything on it, i just formated it to ntfs.
The price of send it back and get a new is 1/10 price of new hdd.
My othere 3 Hdd (2 hdd are 103sj) have C8 at 0.
Should I replace it, or will the c8 will just be on 1 for all use?

I suggest you test the drive using Hitachi's DFT. If it passes, it's fine.

Please, dont ahh, i got 4 samsungs hdd and all 3 are super fine, no errors, its been 3years for first hdd, 2 years for second, 1 year for third and 1 day for forth :)
Im very happy with samsung hdd's. And im assuming that the problem is based on sh**y mail. They send it in "not safe" way. So that could help hdd to "error" me in smart.
Lupin, i used the newest hitachu DFT in Advanced Test (took alot of time ~4h) and no problem found. About SMART i know + - what those C8 means but its my first hdd with anything over 0, so I wanted to be sure it is/or isn't problem.
vuzedome, you could make a better post - like c8 is/isn't critical. or "if mhdd dont see problem dont make it up".
Anyway, i will mhdd it once too - the surface test + r/w test. If the c8 atribiut wont go up, i think it will be ok? or should I resend it back? or give it to samsung service?

The C8 being higher than 0 (in this case 1) does not necessarily denote hard disk failure. It's not a critical attribute. Try filling the disk with data and then performing a full format and repeat these 2 steps once or twice, if C8 increases, send the disk back.
