I wouldn't say copyright is fundamentally harmful, as such - in theory it is very beneficial; but in its current form, it certainly does do more harm than good. If there was no copyright protecting creators' right to profit from their creations, then it would have a massive impact; it would see the end of film, music, games, etc as a business - think about it, if they can't easily make money directly from their creations, most anime studios would go out of business pretty sharpish, for example. So we do need some form of copyright to ensure companies are still willing to invest money in creating media.
However, it needs to be restrained, reasonable, and proportionate. A 15 to 20-year copyright term allowing you to control distribution of your work, and make money off it, is reasonable, provided the punishments for infringing that right are equally reasonable, and the work goes into the public domain as soon as the term ends. A 100-year long copyright term, which can be extended basically indefinitely if you have enough money, and with ridiculously over the top punishments for infringement, as we have now, is most definitely not reasonable.
Anyway, we should discuss this in another thread. Back on topic!
What's pissing me off right now are EA, Origin, and DRM in general. I've spent the last 3 hours trying to figure out how to get it to let me play my copy of Mass Effect 2, and it took ages just to get EA to recognise that I do in fact own the game, let alone make it run. I've had to resort to redownloading it all through Origin now, which will hopefully work. It would have been easier to just download a pirate copy ¬¬
