I've never understood people who could study biology, see the wealth of evidence for evolution, and still reject it based on personal beliefs. It seems like it would be stressing, having that level of cognitive dissonance. What's worse is when they attempt to invent alternative theories premised on faith rather than empirical evidence. intelligent design and whatnot.
Look
here for instance, arguments all effectively created by creationists and defeated by simple logic or ample evidence to which they now have bend their reasoning around. All that must take a great deal of thought which is utterly wasted from my perspective. I don't believe for a moment they're somehow inadequately intelligent per say, which makes it all the more the shame that they indulge in fantasy rather than studying the world as it is.
It would be like therapists insisting upon reviving phrenology, or physicists who work tirelessly to prove Platonic cosmology - even if they reform the arguments and try to invent creative new ones to support them... so what? What does such specious thought accomplish, especially when it will never effectively challenge the current paradigm? Science is about discovery and improving the human condition through comprehending the universe as it is, not validating what we personally believe to be true for our self-satisfaction. It's mental masturbation.
What pisses me is the wasted potential, the thought that many of these people who I've met and enjoyed talking with are putting their energy into something which will by its very static nature, never bear fruit. This is as much about the creationists as for the conspiracy theorists or staunch political ideologues, insisting on seeing the world through their blindfold and stumbling over their feet.
