^yea i guessed it right, well for starters when that kind of thing happens to me(not exactly a party but when my parents force me to go out with them somewhere) i'd bring a book and waste my time reading it, if i had a laptop i'd bring that instead and waste my time reading mangas on wifi hot-spots or play plant-vs-zombies.
I've tried this approach. Sadly I too have familial obligations regarding annual get-togethers - an often ill conceived thanksgiving and a more formal dinner to honour my grandparents which also serves as a family reunion. Though my family isn't large enough nor separated sufficiently by geography or lifestyle as to make a reunion the least bit relevant - nevertheless it persists and I have obligations. These are, without exception, torture. I get the usual indifferent "how are you doing?" which lasts a few pitiful minutes, wherein I recite some line I've rehearsed in my mind a thousand time. After which I'm released to do nothing for 6-8 hours. My attempts to fill this time with anything remotely interesting, by bringing my laptop, school textbooks or related material, My DS or PSP - even a pack of playing card - all get met with days or months of guilt-filled passive aggressive hostility which have, like a giant Skinner Box, conditioned me to just forgo the attempt and try meditation techniques instead.
So it's everything I love, awkward conversations, hours of interminable boredom, being watched and judged, and spending time with my extended family. Oh yes, I think I have a better formula for interrogating Guantanamo detainees then anything the CIA can envision.
And what's this about Ixarku complaining about the weather in
Florida?
