I suspect it has to do with all the HDD manufacturers that went bankrupt or were bought by there competition in the past few years.

Lol no it's the flood in Thailand that dropped the Supply hugely. And now that the ones they have in storage are starting to run out...

Oh yeah, I'm building a new PC so I think I'll just cannibalize my old PC for the harddrive until the prices go down.

And just bottle neck the fuck out of it.

Yeah, they did, it's whatever the use to make harddrives. Celerium or something I think. Maybe Cesium. My memory fails me.

And also, if anyone didn't they'd be able to rise their prices.

Well it might still have something to do with competition though. I'm guessing if the market was shared by many players, this event would just have killed western digital while only having a minimal effect on prices.
