All religions have an accompanying philosophic discourse, all assume their positions rational and all provide principles for guidance in real life matters. Whether I agree with the Buddhist worldview or not, I fail to see the merit in wilful ignorance.
Simply trying to learn the more complex concepts which Buddhist philosophers have developed has proved a considerable challenge. They don't translate easily, both literally and in the abstract alien way of thinking to my own. I don't want to function on some kind of base oversimplification, just to satisfy my ego while learning nothing of value. If I can begin to ask intelligible questions I'd be satisfied. Thus far it's been pleasurable to be forced to think non-linearly at the same time as it's massively pissed me off.
Besides, my father's a Chan Buddhist, so it's significant to who I am.
