I am assuming that sam meant 'associations' (based on how it can be combined with number 1, God) in the sense of associating things with other things, like associating someone's success with God (somehow).

I guess I was referring to Associations as in building community governments.  Like when you buy or rent a condo or townhouse you have to pay dues to an organization that makes sure every tenet or owner conforms to bylaws created by the association.  Their bylaws basically read like this specifically:

No parking in non parking zones.  The association reserves the right to determine what is or is not a non parking zone.  The association reserves the right to tow vehicles without warning.

But generally they read like this:

You cannot do Action A.  The association reserves the right to determine the definition of Action A.  The association reserves the right to punish those who commit Action A without warning.

Hmmh, seems like an extremely hostile association. We never had anything close to being that strict back when were a part of an area governed by an association.

Although I don't live in an area with an HOA, I don't recall ever hearing anyone speak well of them.  I always hear people bitching about their unreasonable rules, exorbitant fees, and the all around hassle of dealing with them.  I suppose if they keep your neighborhood nice and your property values from dropping too much, they serve their function.

Don't do that.  I've been there, the journey's not worth it.  For one thing, the scenery along the way sucks, bathrooms are hard to find, the food is overpriced, and the waiter will invariably spit in your soup when you're not looking.
