Star War: The Old Republic, has officially pissed me off. The KOTOR elements are nice, and I was enthusiastic for like, 10 hours of playing, but then... the walking...the walking...the walking. It was a whole new level of tedium which made the already slow pace of the game become a cumbersome crawl through the city planet of meh. You're in the future-ish past, travelling across a Gehenna-damned city should not be that boring. Why in the nine-hells do you walk that slow, you're supposed to be a badass jedi, not a mall-walking granny. I'd almost appreciate Dragon Age 2's dungeon/town/field snippets to this, almost.
SW:TOR feels like they're just wasting my time in such an ostentatiously useless fashion. Travelling should be fun -- an adventure -- pick a spot on the horizon and discover what treasures, what dangers, what beauty you can find there. This is how Skyrim felt, you could quick travel for the tedious stuff, while exploring villages/towns was its own joy as you look for people to murder and steal from. For those areas which are unexplored, and you're really just interested in getting there -- well, you've got a horse you can steal to get you there in record speed. Or, even better from my perspective, you can up your speed stats and run like the frickin' Olympic-level automaton you are. There isn't this stupid, monotonous stride you can set your watch to. Of course it's pre-calculated, but it doesn't feel like it.
MMOs should be big, really big, and crossing them on foot should take a legit amount of time -- but not because you're artificially slowed. It seemed to me like a minor issue at first, but I haven't beat my head against my keyboard quite that hard since the last time I read youtube comments.
