Aion. I'm still playing it because a) it's free, and b) I enjoy the world. But I not real thrilled with getting griefed by higher level characters. Tonight I went through a rift to once more try to get a few spy quests done, and I got chased across literally the entire zone by another character who was 19 levels higher than my character (lvl 37 vs lvl 56). I mean, fucking really? He gets no points for killing my character, the only reason to do that is to be a dick. All I did for about a solid 5 minutes was root him periodically and run.
There are really simple ways to prevent griefing in games like this -- for instance, if someone is too low a level for you to earn points from him, then you shouldn't be able to attack the weenie character unless they attack you first. I don't understand why this isn't implemented in level-based games with pvp. I don't mind losing a fight where I'm outleveled or outgeared, but when it's a 100% guaranteed death, what the hell is the point of playing.
I dunno, this just reinforces my desire to get this character up to level 50+ then just park him and camp the incoming rifts in a zone somewhere, like the other side frequently does.
Back in WoW when something like this happened i simply notified a GM about such dicky behaviour.
It's not against rules to attack another player but if it doesn't give you anything at all and it's constantly done by such player, GMs usually observed such players for a while and then they give a fair warning to stop attacking players that are out of their level range. Coincidentally when there was a player that stalked us and done stuff that simply annoyed the fuck out of you like killing your targets that you were about to hit for XP such players were kicked from the game for 2 days back in The Burning Crusade, after a while behaviour like that ceased to exist in the game altogether.
The only things that are PVP related outside PVP typical zones and are allowed are city/village/outpost raids done by larger groups of players. On the server I used to be it was a fair competition for fun, 40 people raiding Loardaeron and 40 people raiding the Orcs city was a common sight, any player who wished to defend the city was welcome to do so.
The only disadvantage Alliance had in this was Lordaeron's graveyard was farther away from the city than the orcs one.
In WoW, standard kill gives you some honor points, usually 5, more in battlegrounds for higher ranks or consecutive kills before you are killed. You gain no honor for killing a player with a grayed out name. (Usually 5 levels below you)
