What a coincidence, Ixarku. My A/C unit for the upstairs died today, and it pisses me off because my PC is up there and I don't have a laptop yet. Looks like I'll spending more time downstairs.

I wish this heat wave would end.

Yeah, the temp in my house has dropped by 2 degrees F in 6 hours... fortunately, that means it's only 86F now @ 11pm. Fans, Aion, Farscape, and beer make it tolerable for now, gonna have to go to sleep soon though, fun.

Somewhat coincidentally, I'm a pretty big fan of Robin Hobb myself esp. Soldier Son and Farseer. Liveship Traders annoyed me to no end (I hated the character of the captain, absolutely despised him.)

Oh, I started reading Hobb with Liveship Traders and dropped her after not too long. Too much of the petulant acid-tongued arguing between the protagonist and her brother-in-law, to the point that it felt like a ~~bad~~ reality show.

Also, I decided to listen to it in audiobook format, which was unfortunate. The voice talent they'd chosen had this exceptionally nasal voice with a faux British accent, like something out of Murder She Wrote.

I'd prefer automated text-to-speech over second-rate voice actors, or anyone with a high natural pitch.

Leeches! No not the internet leeches who hit and run, the kind you pick up out of long grass or brush.

I went collecting firewood off the side of the local road and spotted a nice tree about 12 girth (12 inches across) sitting in about half a foot of grass. Chainsawed it up and stacked it in the boot. Took 4 trips to get it all home.
Anyway, once I finished, I decided I better have a shower. Only then did I notice the massive little sucker on my leg and the blood pissing out of me.
At a guess, I'd say he drank close to 30 or 40ml (you can convert that to fl ounces or whatever you use in your country)

Liveship was such a disappointment for me because the I thought the Farseer books before it were so good. I used to skip class sometimes because I just couldn't stop reading them. It was a tough act to follow up, I guess. lol

I have the Soldier Son trilogy on my "to read" list, but I just haven't gotten around to it. I hear it's not as good as Hobb's previous books. Guess I'll have to see for myself. Also, I just found out recently that Hobb started a series called "The Rain Wilds Chronicles" that takes place after the events in the Liveship books and runs concurrently with the Tawny Man series and a little bit afterwards. Have either of you checked it out?

On topic: Dealing with hay fever on a hot day.

Liveship annoyed me so much that I decided to skip Rain Wilds altogether. I loved Soldier Son, though. I thought it was much darker than her other work. The main character gets repeatedly and completely screwed over throughout the trilogy, and his struggles to persevere really drew me in.

Tawny Man was good, but my enjoyment of it was uneven, for similar reasons as to why I hated Liveship. Fitz was at his best when he was decisive, but when he was acting like a whiny bitch it really knocked my enjoyment down. I understand why he was a whiny bitch, and I give Hobb some credit for portraying Fitz the way he was; I just really disliked him as a person.

They are just teaching you to get used to disappointment.

By the time you get older, and you realize that all of your hopes and dreams and ambitions have all been destroyed & buried by the realities of the working world, that it's a struggle simply to find the motivation to face day-to-day life, and that it's all pretty much pointless anyway, you will already be somewhat prepared for the soul-crushing despair and apathy that dominates most of adult life. So thank your parents now -- they are just trying to ensure that you don't off yourself 15 or 20 years from now.

Aaaaaaaah.. Downloaded Mirai Nikki... and the first episode is broken in the end.. sooo annoying!

And second episode stopped halfway.. If I skip past, there is no sound.

Why is this happening to me, on this very day, when I finally have time to watch anime on daytime?!?!
