As some of you might know, I'm a proponent of the utilitarian philosophy. Today was the day my philosophy teacher started teaching it.
Quotes:
"So do utilitarians think the rights of animals should be protected? Absolutely."
"Utilitarians think that happiness is only a matter of pain and pleasure and all pleasures are equal so what you do is you list all the pains and pleasures caused by an action and if their is a greater number of pains it's a bad action"
"So the only important thing for an utilitarian is the true consequences of an action. It doesn't matter if it was foreseeable or what was your intentions."
ARGH!!! I'm in the back of the class pulling my hair out of my head. Those are some of the most debated topics WITHIN the utilitarian movement and he talks like there was a consensus among us.
