The talk was about genetically modifying male mosquitoes to be sterile and sending them out to mate with females to effectively wipe out 90%+ of the populations in areas it's been tested in so far.

And what about the animals that eat mosquitoes? Then they start dying off, and the animals that eat them start dying off, and suddenly you've got an ecological disaster.

It's an invasive species of mosquito.

But I say wipe out the whole lot of them, consequences be damned. We can just keep supplying a whole bunch of sterile males (males don't bite) if it's really that important.
