I forgot one of my passwords.
I can relate. I have so many damn passwords it's not even funny. At work alone, I have one to sign onto my laptop / the company LAN. A different logon / password for the Exchange server. A different logon for the TSO environment on the mainframe. A separate logon for every test environment (at least 14) I work in. Separate logins for the 2 report archive systems. A separate login for the system we use for project management. A separate login for a test automation tool. At least 3 logins for different systems related to various HR functions.
Many of these systems have different rules for login IDs and passwords. For some, my login is $ followed by my first initial & last name. Others, it's my full name. Or my first initial and last name. For some, my passwords have no expiration; others, it's 60 days or 90 days. Some, the passwords can be anything; others it's exactly 8 characters alpha & numeric; or minimum 8 characters, at least 1 alpha, 1 numeric, and 1 special character.
It's crazy. All of this bullshit is just for work. I have an entirely separate list of stuff at home. The differences in rules mean that I can keep some of my user ids & passwords similar, but when passwords start to expire, I have to be extremely careful about changing passwords and keeping track of what I did, or else I might end up falling into the black hole of trying to figure out who resets locked accounts for different applications.
