For all you guys losing passwords: https://lastpass.com/

Makes life way easier... I use the grid multifactor authentication. It's pretty awesome...

I got it after watching the security expert and creator of GRC Steve Gibson talk about how great it is.

I don't have a problem with losing passwords; I just have a shit ton of them to keep track of, so I have to be fairly careful with what I do.

LastPass looks like it could be handy for home use, but I absolutely, positively could not use such a thing at work.  For one thing, if a piece of software ain't approved by the company, it's not getting installed on any work PC.  Licensing aside, they have our machines locked down so that we can't install any software on our own (admin privledges are reserved for our PC Support folks).  Secondly, since we work with credit card and other sensitive data, we have compliance & regulatory constraints, so I imagine a password manager wouldn't be PCI compliant.  (Otherwise, somebody would probably have pushed for such a thing in our division before now.)  If it's not compliant, it's not happening.  And lastly, not every system I work on is web- or browser-enabled, so its usefulness would be limited.  For example, we use Passport PC To Host for mainframe terminal emulation, and, correct me if I'm wrong, it looks like LastPass is strictly a web browser application.

That makes little sense.

When people start a sentence with, "With all due respect...", because what it really means is, "Fuck you, and here's why...".

I got one of these in an email at work today when I assigned an issue/defect to someone for review.  I can shrug that off, but then to add further insult, the same person stops by my desk 10 minutes before the end of the day to say, "I didn't mean that disrespectfully, but [insert a more detailed explanation of why you can go fuck yourself]."  I have to laugh, because I was actually asked to assign the issue to this person by my lead, and it's very rare for me to report something that isn't a legitimate issue that needs review.  And if the person I assign something to doesn't think it's appropriate for them to spend the time on it, they can save the bullshit complaints and simply say, "This should go to person B instead since they own this particular thing."

Also, on today's drive home, I was making a left turn at a light when it was yellow, about to turn red, when some asshole in another car zips up on my right, with his left turn signal on, cuts me off and does a U-turn in all of about 2 or 3 seconds, leaving me at a red light with another asshole behind me in a big pick-up truck inches from rear-ending my car.  I barely had time to register what was happening and stomp on the brakes.  Just the sheer fucking audacity of some people on the road is unbelievable.  I completely understand road rage.

My mom went back to her egoistic boyfriend who's been pestering her every single day for the last year.
...yes, I've suggested a restraining order.

What if you lose your grid?

You can set certain login locations as safe so that you don't have to enter it from there. I have my home computer set as safe. Though... I do also have it laminated and keep it in my purse and I have another copy kept locked up in a fire safe... :P

You can also export your entire database any time you want for offline viewing either in plain text or in their same encryption. If you do the encrypted method, which you should, then you can grab their offline client to access it. You don't need your GRID for that.
