My company's sandwich maker shared it's fate about 2 hours ago... so no tongues burnt by hot sandwiches during today's lunch break ._.

My parents, apparently they left last Friday to the Azores.

Now I'm not the type of person who wants or even feels the need to keep tabs on others. I'm happy they're out in the sun for the next month, I'd like to be with them if it wasn't massively creepy.

But, I don't know, I kind of expect to be informed. We live pretty close to one another and I've got them down as an emergency contact and such. They told my brother, who lives over an hour's drive away and I'm fairly certain couldn't care less. If I went on an unannounced trip they'd never let me live it down.

I'll let it go I guess, I'm still a tad miffed.

I'm so glad it's not just my family that does this to me. I'm even legally still a dependent.

Is this bad? My father goes abroad on business trips about once a month and only notifies me if something is out of the ordinary.
...although, I only meet him like every two weeks when he's not busy, so...

A big deal to me? Not really. But my parents like knowing what I'm doing all the time. They are a tad over-protective... But the point is that they want to know where I am, and then leave for a week to Arizona and get pissed when I call them. Dual standards and all...

I never really saw my father growing up either, but that's going down metro's personal life.

I don't know Nikk. I think it pissed me off more to have my dad tell me he and his new family are going to Disneyworld, and then to the Bahamas, but that he cannot help me with my education. Actually my father has done little but piss me off since he asked me to pay the mortgage on my grandparents home after they died. To find out he had a new motorcycle, new Nakamichi Dragon tape deck, etc.etc.etc. Then tell me to get my money back from taxes. Never do business with family.

These are people who insisted I find a job at 14, and that I use none of those earnings whatsoever for anything but my continued education. They aren't exactly capricious with their own money either.

My parents consider personal responsibility next to godliness, and the inability to meet any obligations deeply shameful. Generally I'm fine with this, except when they broaden what my "obligations" are without telling me. Or, for instance, requiring me to go to my junior lacrosse game with a severely twisted ankle under the ultimatum that if I didn't they'd take me out of lacrosse altogether, since clearly I'm not taking it seriously. That kind of stuff.

If my parents were typing this they'd say you shouldn't expect anyone to pay your way for you. They'd also politely imply your father isn't a man if he puts his selfish wants ahead of his familial obligations and even goes so far as to foist them off onto his son. Which is good, since if I were in your place I'd might be tempted to screw over my grandparents, they're horrid, manipulative, self-esteem decimating, and generally disagreeable people.

So... Just your typical high achieving family then? Next you'll tell me you went to U of T.
Seriously though, you might want to vent that shit to someone with a better perspective then a bunch of people on a message board.
