Recommend some pc games
« on: September 24, 2010, 08:56:20 AM »
Uhh.. its been ages since I played some PC games you can laugh at me because I'm very damn outdated in this area. Currently I'm in a vacation so I'm free from any work. These are the list of the games I played before:

FallOut 3
Crysis
Prototype
Borderlands
Call of Juarez
Medal of Honor Pacific Assault

Currently I'm downloading Far Cry 2 and hoping it is good.

Thanks in advance :D Cheers!

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 1 and 2
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Mass Effect 2
Bioshock

Some of the games I've enjoyed playing through the recent months.

Hmmm, Darksiders just came out for PC.

Overlord is a lot of fun and I hear Overlord 2 is even better (own both, haven't played the second one yet).

Mass Effect 1 and 2 are a lot of fun (IMO 1 was better, they "bro'd up" the second one).

Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age: Origins: Awakening (the expansion) are tons of fun, and the DLCs are fun, too. Hope they don't "bro up" Dragon Age 2. Consoles are not the appropriate platform for real cRPGs, they're only okay for jRPGs (which tend to suck anyway).

SINS of a Solar Empire is the tits as a 4X. Dawn of War is an excellent skirmish-level strategy, and Dawn of War II is a really fun pure tactical skirmish game. Note: the multiplayer on these three games blows that of Starcraft (I and II) and Warcraft (I, II and III) out of the water. OTOH, SINS doesn't have a campaign mode; and the DoW games have so-so campaigns, story wise.

The linear nature of your Euclidean geometry both confounds and befuddles me.

I would suggest going through the infinity engine games. Baldur's Gate II and Planescape: Torment are the best games on it. But they are all good, if a bit old. Make sure to download the fix packs after you patch them fully. They fix the majority of issues you could have.

Starcraft 2 is a smash hit as well. Well worth playing the campaign, there are also some decentish custom maps online. Those will be better as time passes I assume.

Recettear seems to be generating a lot of hype right now.

Sid Meier's Civilization V was just released as well.

I didn't want to recommend the same as somebody else. :)

Did Darksiders get a good port, or the standard console ports where you can forget about it without a gamepad?

Stupid Steam won't let me buy because I'm in Japan. Anyone know of a good proxy service?

For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

The game is Japanese, I would think there would be a way to obtain it there?

Knights of the old republic 1&2. (might be tricky to make them work unless you have XP. Haven't tried Win 7. Vista does not work.)
Half-Life series.  HL1, HL2, HL2-EP1&2.
+1 for Mass Effect 1&2.

Lol, I`m stuck.... Can`t think of any more:/
Will post more suggestions later.

Just contact customer service.  From what I understand they'll remove the block for individual purchases.

+1 for all the Half-Life games.
I'm not sure if you have played any of the Fallout 3 DLC, but it is quite good.

I would recommend you give Dragon Age: Origins a play through.

Get an emulator and you won't be bored playing Final Fantasy VII, VIII or IX.

I haven't done much PS2 emulating yet. :P ( it seems to be more easy now though )

It is very easy with pcsx2, kind of hardware heavy though. Uses only 2 cores and you want something like 2GHz + on those cores if you want to play it looking decent. If you can live with the normal ps2 graphics without improvements, perhaps even slightly worse you could probably do it with a 3GHz single core or some such.

Yes. Avoid Steam.

The convenience of Steam and having all (of the games possible) on it makes it desirable to exhaust every means of obtaining a game through Steam before moving on to alternate methods

That's good to know, thanks.

Get an emulator and you won't be bored playing Final Fantasy VII, VIII or IX.

Or you will be bored because those games suck.

Yes, in Japanese. This does me no good.

Knights of the old republic 1&2. (might be tricky to make them work unless you have XP. Haven't tried Win 7. Vista does not work.)

Both work in (at least) Vista Ultimate 64-bit and 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Use Windows XP compatibility mode (right click *.exe > properties > compatibility > Windows XP Service Pack 2 (or 3)).
