Keep an eye out for Black Mesa; a mod to the first game allowing you to play it with the Source engine. Still waiting for it to come out. :(

You have to use the unofficial builds.  And then you have to do a lot of tweaking.  And you'll need a Core 2 or better at at least 3Ghz.

PS2 emulation is brutal on hardware.

I have done fine with a C2D E8400 @ 3ghz.  Didn't really require any tweaking.  Hardest part for me was getting the damn BIOS rip from a PS2 the emulator wanted....

Have you tried to play FFXII or Shadow of the colossus (sp?)?  Both those have light effects that just killed me (might be fixed in later releases). The emulator doesn't use more than 2 cores, so you have one of the better processors for it.

jrpg PC games I'd recommend:

Sengoku Rance (rance series)
Ys (series)
games by Illusion

Are the first ones from the top of my head.

I like PC games more than console games, since having consoles is a bit redundant when
you already have a PC. The only other games I like are mobile games that you can play on a smart phone
or portable consoles like PSPs since it's easier to carry than a laptop when you're travelling.
