Please read the scenario below and vote. Suspension?
apriuschan:
So I was suspended for ten days, because I 'Instigated a fight', and was acting 'Excessively violent to a fellow student.'.
In other words, if you witness a freshman girl being shoved into the lockers, (In an aggressive manner)
and interrupt the male student who is shoving said female, if you're hit,you have instigated a fight.
But wait! America's got more for ya! All three of you are suspended for ten days. And to top it off, the other male student (Because his mother decided to threaten the school) Only gets five days of suspension.
And I know it wasn't my place, but I'm not really going to just walk past that. Mind that it might be a little confusing, as I'm not in the best mood, and am typing quickly.Naturally I fought the Male Student when he hit me, so I know I should have been suspended for breaking the rules, but what about the girl? Let alone us being suspended longer than Male Student.
Takeshi:
I don't get why the girl got suspended.. ???
You were right in doing so either way.
Then again, I wasn't there.
A similar incident happened in Denmark a few weeks ago.
A male stops another male from hitting a girl, the male gets upset and walks away only to get some of his friends and go all-out on the other guy half an hour later. I haven't heard if they got caught, but man I get pissed when I hear shit like that.

Did you at least get the girls name and number?

A lot of schools in the U.S. have long had a no-tolerance policy towards fighting. And no-tolerance means, it doesn't matter what the reason is for your involvement, or what happened or why; it means, if you were involved in a fight in some capacity, you get suspended. It's definitely not fair, but the schools are not interested in "fair". It's a BS policy intended to remove any possibility of liability or responsibility from the schools. It's an unfortunate consequence of how parent-school relationships have evolved over the last few decades, what with people suing school boards for all sorts of reasons, some frivolous, some not.
The positive thing to remember is that a suspension from school is highly unlikely to have any significant long-term impact on your life beyond school itself. I suppose in theory a suspension or repeated suspensions could negatively impact your chances of getting into your college of choice, but I've never heard of it happening, and no potential employer gives a damn as long as you don't have a criminal record. Obviously expulsion would have a bigger impact.

I'm not gonna vote because I'm only getting your story. However, if your version is, indeed, the Absolute Reality of an unbiased observer's experience of events ,,, yah. It sucks. Yah, you did right, and yah, you're paying the price for it.
As far as the girl ... it sounds like she's getting it raw. But, you also don't know the entire story from hours or days before. Just saying, keep an open mind that what you observed could well be the culmination of a lot more.
Future reference, if you've got (or friends or anybody nearby) your mobile phone, hit > video > RECORD. You can always help in a situation like that by helping to incite positive reaction in the group around you ... and you don't physically touch. You want to really Do The Right Thing?
Stand between her & her attacker with your hands "in" (near) your pockets and let the other guy beat on you. Don't feed his aggression.
The school admin (rightly or wrongly) has a policy of anyone involved gets the same treatment. The teachers & admin will never know exactly what happened, they only know what others have told them.
The guy gets five days because his mommy threw a temper tantrum ..? Fine. Make sure the ENTIRE school knows that his mommy has to wipe his bottom for him. Make sure word goes out to the entire school that this asshole needs his mommy to finish the fights he loses.
Make a complaint to the School Board (at the District level, not your principal) that punishment was handed down unevenly (don't use the word "unfair"). The administration of your specific school has shown favoritism. Show up at the next two or three public school board meetings and state your opinion verbally and on the public record. Submit a written, detailed complaint requesting investigation.
Make sure to pointedly ask the School Board for all records, including and especially video surveillance, so that your legal adviser(s) may review them.
Just so you know, I was attacked by two thugs on a school bus one day. They were upset that I was sitting in their seat. All three of us were banned from the public bus system for the remainder of the year, even with a dozen witnesses backing up the fact that I was sitting in a seat minding my own business when I was attacked by two older boys.
Life sucks rocks some days. Welcome to ameriKKKa where criminals and thugs get away with fucking up innocent lives.
