MKV to MP4 with Subtitles? (Android Phone Question)
« on: September 25, 2010, 04:02:56 PM »
So about a week and a half ago, I got myself the Droid X smartphone from Verizon. It has 720p HD playback ability, so I figured, "Hey, I've downloaded at least 80gb in anime in mkv, let me see if I can't convert it and put it on this thing."

Only problem is, all the MKV to mp4 converters i've run into were either a joke or didn't provide a method of retaining subtitles.

Anyone have any recommendations?

1 ) Download and install Monogram GraphStudio (->google, it's freeware). Also, install Haali Media Splitter if you don't already have it.
2 ) Open GraphStudio, go to Graph -> Insert Filter.
3 ) Select Haali Media Splitter and select the file you wish to convert. (let's say "movie.mkv")
4 ) Select Haali Matroska Muxer and type the filename you want the movie to have ("movie.mp4")
5 ) Connect the pins for Video, Audio and Subtitle from the Media Splitter to the Matroska Muxer.
6 ) Right-click on the Matroska Muxer, select Properties -> Options -> Output -> File Type, change Matroska to MP4.
7 ) [Optional] Name the video, audio and subtitle tracks
8 ) Hit OK, then press the green Play button.
9 ) Wait.
10) ? ? ? ? ?
11) PROFIT :D

most of the players that ive found on my evo that will play my unconverted files do it poorly (audio/video desyncing issues)

So converting will probably help

Some of my videos play smooth on my evo some of them do not. Once I flashed a different kernal running HVAS and using setcpu to overclock to 1.1ghz a lot more videos played better. And seems rock player is getting better first version was terrible and i had audio sync problems all the time. Now it only happens on high bitrate content.
