MKV files, PS3 media server, and the PS3

I'm not sure where else to put this question, so I hoped this was the best forum for it.

All of the anime I download, i prefer to watch it on my tv via my ps3. I stream anything I can from my PC to my ps3.  Any file that isn't .mkv plays fine. Most .mkv's seem to have a problem playing on the ps3. Neither the Video, the Audio, or the subtitles are in sync with each other.

Has anyone else experienced this issue, and does anyone know if there is a fix for this?

Worst case scenario just means I have to watch the anime on my computer instead of my tv. Which, to circumnavigate, I may end up connecting my computer to my TV directly, but I wanted to avoid that if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Is your PC good enough to handle the video transcoding? You'll need a minimum dual core 2.66GHz for 1080p, but for 720p even a 1.60GHz pentium dual can get away with it .

I thought PS3 could only play MP4s... If it can play AVI and crap too I'm going to headdesk

PSP can only play mp4 at least... and if there is a way to watch MKV on PS3, that'd be even better, my tv is a foot away from my comp, meaning my PS3 is a foot away from my comp, meaning if I could watch animu on the bigger screen... :P

PS3 media server, or PSM.

I can play 1080p on my 2.26ghz laptop, does GFX (9800M GTX) card help or is it all CPU?
