lolwut?
With that 9800M your cpu can be 2.0 for all i care.
The guy wants to transcode, needs more cpu grant than gpu, but if you got CoreAVC CUDA, maybe, just maybe you can get it off with 1.8GHz dual on 1080p.
Ah, this only applies to softsubs, which we all generally use in MKV for the subtitles, but for MKVs without subs, it comes down to the bitrate.

I can play 1080p on my 2.26ghz laptop, does GFX (9800M GTX) card help or is it all CPU?

2.0 GHz + 8800gt playing 1080p w/o any problem here.
My friend use ps3ms and he streams mkv w/o any problem so mayby try something like 480p mkv and if thats run fine then you need better pc ?

Specs aren't a problem. It looks like SOME .mkv's work, but some don't. The ones that I can guarantee will have problems are ones with dual audio or multiple subtitle files.
PS3 media server (i think there was a question about that)
and to the person who asked, mp4, avi, mov, and divx, xvid files all stream fine. it's only .mkv that i have problems with.

If you didn't update your PS3, linux can play MKV just fine.

Can you back that claim? :o
I know you can install other operating systems as well, I've been doing the same, but performance wise...... :P
