Connecting from the UK
« on: October 05, 2010, 06:37:30 AM »
So I moved to London for my University and I can't seem to connect to any torrents on BakaBT. My ratio is fine so I don't know what exactly is going on. Does BakaBT not allow connections from the UK?

I can seem to download other torrents like movies and whatnot but nothing from BakaBT. I also use UTorrent.

living in a dorm? in that case they probably blocked us - but definitely not the other way around ;)

I'm now in the exact same situation. Most universities, especially the residence halls, block P2P entirely. I can't access some bittorrent trackers at all.

Or you're using a non-whitelisted version of uTorrent...

^ Ah, I forgot about that.

How about you tell us what tracker message you're getting?

Ok where would I find that?

Also, I'm able to get through on some torrents, just not on any BakaBT torrents.

And my flat mate just hacked the internet so we now have wireless lol. Maybe it can work there.

Ok so apparently I still can't figure out why it won't work but I'm 99% sure that the stupid university is blocking it. I'll just have to find a different source. The brits are kind hard ass about their laws and rules.

Did you know its illegal to ride your bicycle on the sidewalk and you have to ride it on the road?

And did you know its illegal to feed pidgins rice because if you do, they will explode literally? They tell me that the rice will expand due to absorbing water inside their stomachs and if they eat enough of it, they will literally explode like the blue jay in Shrek. So many goddamn laws that make no goddamn sense.........off on a tangant.

From now on, I'll just have to stare at the BakaBT page, wishing that I could watch anime....T_T

That is a pretty common law. UK isn't alone in having that law. I break it every week here. :)

There are cycle lanes for bikes on paths, and where there aren't you can still ride on the path. I've never seen people forced into the road, they choose to ride there. :S

And I think its more CRUEL to feed pigeons rice than illegal.

Yes well I'm not used to that.

Anyways, other than using a different tracker or whatever, is there any other solution to this....?

They all say these things:

Connection Timed Out
HTTP Error 404
Offline (timed out)
Working
waiting for announcement
Not allowed

Also, will switching to bittorrent or a different client make a difference?
And will setting up a proxy work?

No I've been trying different torrents from other places and whatnot.
It used to be only BakaBT torrents but now all torrents are blocked. Its like
security is stalking me. And now I can't even stream videos which means no youtube...

Not allowed is the one from the BakaBT torrents.

Our tracker doesn't give the "not allowed" error message. Our tracker errors will all give a full reason as to why there is an error, such as "client is not allowed" and "unregistered torrent. it may have been swapped or removed".

Oh, thanks for posting your private key. You should extend the "name" tab so we can see the whole thing and use it to compromise your account.
/sarcasm
Read the Wiki before you ask me what I'm talking about.

Anyway, restart everything, including your network? Sounds like something's screwed up on your end, if multiple things aren't working. Shut everything down, cut power to the modem and router and whatever else is on your network, and then power everything back up.

By the way,
They all say these things:

Connection Timed Out
HTTP Error 404
Offline (timed out)
Working
waiting for announcement
Not allowed
the above quote is quite useless. It'd really help if next time you list what each thing is describing.
It's a bit analogous to taking a table with people's names and occupations, and simply listing the occupations. It's information that we can't really use.

Also, will switching to bittorrent or a different client make a difference?
And will setting up a proxy work?

No and no, judging from your situation.

Oh shit ok well problem fixed. New pic.

Well, I'm connected to the University network. So they might be tracking all the downloading and whatnot.

This one is from BakaBT:

And no I'm not running Malware bytes. I'm running Microsoft Security Essentials.
