Are kanji-only song titles allowed?
« on: October 05, 2010, 02:50:06 PM »
I'm planning to upload a soundtrack rip that I'm doing, but the CDDB results give all but one of the song titles in kanji only, and only a few could be translated successfully through Babelfish.  Would I be allowed to upload all the songs in kanji only, or do I need to have them in English or the Japanese words written with the English alphabet?  If the latter, is there any way I can get help with it?

kanji would be fine too - though i personally would prefer romaji.
english translations only if they are official.

Would this count?  Seems pretty accurate.

No.

When we say Official, we mean that they were released using an English name. That means the English name should be listed somewhere on the CD Jacket or booklet. Otherwise, it is best to leave the names in Japanese. If you know how to read kanji VERY VERY WELL (THIS IS IMPORTANT) then you may transliterate to romaji. Otherwise, it will probably be more accurate to leave it in kanji.

Just remember not to pack up the content written in kanji/kana. (i believe it was already mentioned at the wiki, probably)

Some compressing apps would have trouble reading them, for some formats (7z is known to cause the least problems).

As for me, it doesn't really matter, though for the sake of others, transliterated would be your best choice.

Archive format hardly matters, as long as you're not using ancient lzh, and even then I have doubts that it'd cause problems if your computer has the correct language settings.
What album are you planning to upload? Give us the name, who knows, someone here may be capable of lending you a hand ;)

IIRC, WinRAR regularly mangles file names written in kanji in Russian versions of Windows :(.

It's actually already in the offered section, but the information on it is incomplete.  The album is Bobobo no Album and is the OST to the Bobobo-bo bo-bobo TV series, the composer is Koichiro Kameyama (With the exception of the included opening and ending songs, which I found the artists and English translations for on ANN), and the tracklist is as follows:

1. アバン
2. Wild Challenger (Opening)
34. Shiawase (Ending)

If anyone could translate those, it would be greatly appreciated.

1) Aban (probably avant is what the author meant here)
2) Wild Challenger (Opening)
3) Otoko no na-wa BOBOBO-BO BO-BOBO
4) Kyoufu no margarita teikoku
5) KIRAKIRA yume no youenchi
6) Koi no kanashimi
7) DO konjou misete yaru!
8) Shinsei misa kyoku
9) Tsudoe, HAJIKERISUTO-tachi (sounds funny, no reference even in kodansha - probably related to the anime itself)
10) BIUTI no TE-MU (Make sure you paste-copied this one correctly. ビュティ is just plain odd, since it doesn't even sound right. ビューティ is the way to go)

That's the transliteration for the first few ones. If you're interested I can do the rest. Just right now I'm kinda short on spare time.

Hopefully I didn't fail anywhere. Only N3 level here. Someone more fluent should check this up.

Oh, and if you meant "translation" as in "translate the meaning" then I would say it's a no-go. While you can mostly transliterate correctly into only one setup, you can do multiple version of the translation (depending on the person translating). Doing so would result in inability to cross-reference the tracks with anything else (databases, amazon, etc.) since they obviously woulnd't have the same exact translation version.

10's not temu, it's tema. Aka theme.
11. Densetsu no hajike hito, shuryou pacchi
12. Chikyuu saidai no kiki!
13. Bo-bobo gekijou
14. misuteruasu
15. kuruni kimeru ze! Happoko maru
16. Aikyacchi
17.  Heibonna nichijou
18. Otoko no aishuu!? tokoro ameno suke
19. Ke kari tai mairu
20. Otomechikku junjou, Ufu☆
21. Yasashisa ni afurete
22. Babiron shin kobushi no tsukaite ・ Sofuton
23. Semaru manote!! maji, yabaitte!
24. Majikaru☆garu tanbo chan no tema
25. Umai yuuwaku
26. kantou sukeban rengou ・Boboko to pachibi
27. Otona no kaori
28. Utsukushii nihon no watashi
29. ikemen youjou! hatenkyou
30. Boukyou no uta
31. Hanage shin jobushi saishuu ougi!
32. Hajikeyou ze!!
33. Janken uranai dayo! ~yokokuhen
34. Shiawase
Not perfect, but the best I could come up with. Have them revised by someone else before using. The bobo and similiar references are tough to transliterate without actually having any idea what they're meant to be. Regarding the confusion with Biuti(Or Biyuti) no tema, It's probably a name of a character in the series, where  a translation would yield 'Beauty's Theme'.
Best wishes,
- Wintereise.

Thanks for clearing up 10. Minor typo. ;]

What i meant is that Beauty is written by a long vowel in like 95% cases (ビューティ), while that's the first case i've seen in written like ビュティ, hence why it's very possible that it's related to the anime itself, not to the general adjective, so your suggestion seems very probable.

Beauty is the name of a character in the show, so that's probably right.

Anyone in particular I should turn to for final/professional translating?
