i gotta watch the 2nd underwater ep and the 3rd one now. I had only seen eps 1-2 of ffpeeps and 1 of underwater. I checked their site and I  think underwater just restyles the HS typesetting and font right? I wasn't sure if there was any additional editing or better raws than HS uses.  Im not too familiar with the group

It seems like a lot of people actually like the squidification translation CR uses. I'll have to decide myself in a few epps. Does anyone actually prefer the FFFpeeps version? I know a lot are watching it just because it comes out first, but i havent seen anyone mention they actually like the way they are doing the translation. I.e. totally ignoring the de geso, and sudenly leaving her name as ika musume at the 2nd episode.

Btw i saw the manga mentioned a couple times. Is it worth a look?

Thats a dumb reason, IMO.
Its pretty damn easy to pick up the gesu simply by listening to the audio.
Only way I drop FFF is if another group starts subbing faster.

Underwater always uses the highest quality video source available, be it TV broadcast, DVD or BD. In this case, it's the TV Tokyo broadcast. So in other words, it's not CR's video and looks better than CR's video. Other than that, the treatment subtitles go through generally means re-styling, actually typesetting the signs and QCing. Opening and Ending lyrics+romaji are also added whenever possible. Besides that, there's also chapters, something that all direct CR rips (HorribleSubs, CrunchySubs, FUNiGuys) lack.

(And for the record, I am the leader and only active member of Underwater - it's pretty much a one-man effort 99% of the time, with some additional helpers from time to time)

I heard a while back from UW staff that while they were doing SW s02 that they basically stole CR subs and made small changes.
I guess that puts them a tiny step above CR, but not much.
Am I correct in this? I cant remember who told this to me in an IRC chat and dont know how much weight that it carries.
Doesnt really matter either, I like FFFpeeps just fine and they are the fastest. No reason to change now.

The only real Underwater staff member is still me. As I can't translate, the translations I use always come from other sources. In case of Strike Witches 2, I indeed used CR subtitles, but I also had quite a lot of helpers that helped me to fix quite a few TL mistakes and other minor errors. Plus I also had OP/ED lyrics & romaji and proper typesetting for the few signs the series had, both of which CR didn't have. And besides that there's obviously the better video & audio quality factor as well. And chapters. You know, like what I mentioned in my previous post right above yours.

Because that's the worst attitude ever. If everyone started typing like that then we would have l33t speak everywhere. cuz thiz iz readble to amirite>
Besides I think most people appreciate properly spelled words, just makes it a tad bit more worth to your read your post.

FYI I'm also non-English. If I misspell a word then firefox's spellchecker is kind enough to let me know and I just right-click and correct it. It's not as if I'm in a hurry to put up my post.
You perceived it as me hating on people who misspell words while that isn't true at all. I think I slightly misunderstood you then. While I do not care when there are a few misspelled words, that can happen, but people who misspell more than 50% of the words are bad. If anyone is like that I can only say at least take the effort to learn it the proper way (or right-click xD).
