stupid mIRC...Whats a good IRC client?
kenshin-dono:
well, crap. I got a message saying a new version of mIRC was out so i d.loaded and installed it and now its forcing me to register and pay >_< i should have stayed with the old version, but i dont still have the instal file for that.
Is there a free version of that one out there anywhere? And if not, whats a good free IRC client? I've only used mIRC in the past and am not really familiar with any other clients or which ones work good. I would only be using it to d.load anime, i dont chat or do anything else with it
AceHigh:
I never use any advanced features in irc, the only thing I actually use it for is xdcc, so for me chatzilla is enough since I also use firefox.

I'm with AceHigh. I used mIRC for years (maybe decades). But it has a tough time with Japanese font. (yeah, there are workarounds) but it doesn't make it easy for you. I've since switched to firefox's chatzilla and haven't looked back.

One of the better clients happens to be one that you are not able to run, assuming you are running windows.
Been running IRSSI for all my IRC stuff. A couple of people have got it to run under Cygwin but I have no experience of running it that way. It would be a interesting learning experience in playing in things of not-Windows to see if you can get it running there.

i never did try using chatzilla. Maybe i'll try doing that untill i find something better. You can do the DCC sends and stuff on it right? thats all i ever use it for. I dont know the termonoligy but i think its the xdcc that ace mentions. Basically where you type the keywords in and get the files, ect.
id still like an individual client though. No one has a good sugestion? mIRC worked fine, but they seem to make you pay with the new update which sucks. I tried clicking the register link but when i hit continue it just boots me out >_<
