The fact that I can hotswap the running binary when I update it is pretty cool, too.

Irssi has the live update too. Don't really see why anyone would need it. Maybe if you're going for world record uptime or something...

My irc client runs inside a screen session on a vm, so it doesn't get brought up and down all the time.  Being able to hotswap the binary means that I don't have to configure auto-rejoining of channels and such.

I quess that's a good reason, or if you're running it in a server somewhere and only access it from the outside. Like no one ever does at the uni servers, because that would be just wrong...

i guess it just changed the way you log on now and takes even longer. After i totally quit out and restart the next time i tried it eventually let me get on. Pain in the arse but its still probably the better IRC client. Reading through the responses it doesn't sound like any of the alternitives are any good, i guess some dont even support resume, which i need. Ive been getting random short disconects for weeks now through comcast. Not sure if its the ISP or something with my router, or maybe the cables going bad

Kurses:
X chat is pretty good (X chat 2, also known as Y chat if you want a free derivative version that works in windows).  Looks all purdy with the current GTK theme I have set for it.  XDDC works fine in it for receiving files from bots, but for the life of me I just can't get the damn thing to be able to send files to other users properly. -_-  Otherwise it's good to go.
